"Paint houses" is mob slang for killing people. I also took "if things come alive" to mean a change for the worse, things turning nasty. BUT... the line in this song that references "painting houses" is closely followed by a pledge to commit no acts of violence. So there goes that theory... |

I am sure I hear "magnified" at the end of the second line. And instead of: "the day you've played my heart with the way that you've played the guitar" I hear: "Babe, you played my heart But the way that you played it was art" One more: "it take to grow wise" sounds like "I meditate to grow wise". I'm not the best listener though. |

Okay, I will call you crazy! "Big House" is just slang for jail or prison. Can not always follow Banks' imagery and therefore what he always trying to say, but maybe he is referring to being prisoner to the relationship, being dominated and consumed by it. I only picked up on this song recently and initially dismissed it as sounding messy and like a medley. Musically it sounds too much like Stella and was thinking that there was only room for one such song on the Turn On the Bright Lights album. But now, I am playing this song way too often. It confirms to me that Turn On the Bright Lights was their best album and the sound they had during that period is better than the very good Antics and the good enough Our Love to Admire. |

To me it sounds like the verses start like: "We look far, we look wide but we never see Turn my eye deep inside but we never see The spirit's face" |
