Obviously a song about New York, and probably the "universal culture" that is culminating as cities become more and more generic with no distinguishable identity. Gentrification, white flight, urban sprawl, urban decay, yuppies, pushing out middle and lower class people who have lived there for generations (even addressing the original victims: the Indians), suburban development, decentralizing cities rendering them un-walkable, watering down the culture, erasing the past, tearing down historic buildings to built condos, etc etc etc etc. I'm from Philly, but I do understand the problems facing New York and so many other cities. My mother and all her family are native New Yorkers and tell me how it's completely changed. Quite sad. I know there are more layers here, but this is easy to start with. :) |

The grammar is effing atrocious! Who submitted these lyrics? Even the "corrections" that you guys posted are terrible. First of all, know the difference between YOUR and YOU'RE: It should be "you're nervous". Know the difference between WANDER (to roam) and WONDER (to think/contemplate): It should be "wonders why". Is there no editing feature on this site? |
