| i think this song can also be related to soldiers. maybe it's coming from personal experience, but this song reminds me of my friend when he came back from iraq. he hardly ever talks about what he had to do, the things he saw, and the things he got used to seeing/experiencing that no human should ever have to see. i know for me, this song helped me understand a little more what he was going through. although i can never completely understand him and the four years he spent over there, this song helps me remember that he is still the same person that left me so long ago, just i have to dig a little deeper to pull him out. | |

this song is just lovely. "lets walk the tightrope together without a safety net and when we fall and we will fall let's fall forever.. these are the most beautiful lines in the entire song. to me, he is saying to her, let's take the risk and open our hearts to the possibility of falling in love. and if they should fall, whether that is in love or fail in something else, the other will always be there and they can fall together, forever. |

to me, this song is about missing someone who means the world to you. it's about wanting to be with that person and for whatever reason you can't. however, in the chorus, there is a sense of hope. it's a terribly sad song. tragic, yet beautiful. |

i think these lyrics posted are incorrect. the line "i'm tired of adjusting fights" should be "and i'm tired of justifying, so i say to you.." that being said, this song takes on a completely different meaning. for me. hello world, i hope you're listening forgive me if i'm young or speaking out of turn there's someone i've been missing and i think that they could be the better half of me they're in the wrong place, trying to make it right and i'm tired of justifying, so i say to you.. this verse to me is someone who is speaking to the world. there is something going on in the world that is bigger than their love, which i believe is war. the person is apologizing for being young and ignorant to what is going on in the world by making this plea to the world. they feel they may be speaking out of turn to the world, because there are so many people "singing the same song," in a sense they are addressing the world to give them back the one who is "the better half of me." but the person addressing the world is tired of justifying the war and what their loved one if over "in the wrong place" fighting for. come home, come home i've been waiting for you for so long, for so long right now there's a war between the vanities but all i see is you and me but the fight for you is all i've ever known so come home here they are begging the world to bring home their better half. they have been waiting for so long for this person to come into their lives, and then the world just up and took them out of their lives. "the war between the vanities" is quite literally the war going on about material things (vanities meaning things that have no real value, as opposed to love or peace). despite this war, the person speaking to the world will fight for the one they love no matter what happens. i get lost in the beauty of everything i see the world ain't half as bad, as they paint it to be if all the sons, all the daughters stop to take it in well hopefully the hate subsides and the love can begin it might start now, but maybe i'm just dreaming out loud this is the most poignant verse of the entire song. here the person speaking to the world is begging for the world to realize just how much beauty there is in the world. they are telling the world to just stop, and take a look around and realize that we are all one, hoping that the hate can subside. when he says "it might start now, but maybe i'm just dreaming out loud" indicates his ignorance once again. the ignorance of someone who is young and has not experienced the hatred and ugliness of the world allows for them to still believe in beauty and love. onerepublic, you've done it again. brilliant. |
