I had the weird experience of meeting atreyu the opposite way: Lead Sails Paper Anchor working my way back to Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses. IMO, everything between these two albums is where my favourite atreyu is. Atreyu's switchup was indeed ballsy, and it WAS the album that first got me liking the band, but now it seems like crap. It sounds too cheesy to be mainstream, but too light to be metal. Sure there's lots of shades of grey in music, but their particular sound doesn't do much for me anymore in their new album after listening to their older ones. |

What I think is unique about a lot of their songs on this album is that a lot of them have these weird "side" parts... Its like pieces of a song that have been injected to make them interesting. For ex. in "Becoming the Bull" the part "This walk can get lonely, I lose myself inside my head" makes little sense both lyrically and is like a strange side order of the song that is highlighted by it's odd nature. These things are what made the album for me. (more ex. of this from No One Cares, Blow, Slow Burn,
I liked Lead Sails because it's chorus seemed to grow as the song progressed unlike cheesy mainstream radio songs that remain static in nature. |

I like the way the song has that eerie beginning and end. It makes me think of everything being hazy at the start, but suddenly sharpening an image in my head, then at the end it goes back to haziness and confusion. Don't really know how to exactly explain. |
