the song describes dan's disagreement with consumerism in christmas. people around him are keen for christmas to bring them presents but have forgotten the true meaning of the day, "the reason we're not in school." "5 days later..." refers to new year's eve, where those around him are already forgetting christmas once again while they get "wasted" on this holiday. on the whole the song focuses on his christianity, and also hints at his disliking for drug use, a common theme of his. |

with the title in mind as well, "wrinkles in your face" brought to my mind dan's past drug use and seeing his peers sink deeper into theirs, with "getting hold of myself" referring to rehab and moving on from that lifestyle. considering only the lyrics and no other personal information, there is a possibility this song refers to madi in a way, but in my opinion drug use is the main theme. note the first line of the song comes from that of his earlier song, "same outfit." all-in-all a simple but enjoyable preview track. |
