I didn't like this song that much when I first heard it but it just grew and grew on me. If everyone is entitled to their own interpretation, this song to me is an ode to the Iraq war. The timing of the release of this song is just perfect. I don't think oasis is an overly political band but these lyrics make me think about how the UK is entangled in the never-ending war. The words "soldier on" are ironic to me, not hopeful. "Hold the line, friend of mine" - perhaps a dialogue between the allies, USA and UK. "Don't be long" - the speaker doesn't want to soldier on. "Who's to say that you were right/ And I was wrong?" - this makes me think of the "bogus" justification of the war and how the countries involved are pointing fingers at each other now because it's dragging on. "come the day, come the night/ I'll be gone." - going back to those feelings of wanting to just pack it up and leave - but i guess it's hard when you're close allies. The steady army beat gave me the idea. The song also goes on and on, kind of like an unsuccessful war. |

hahaha, i never clued into the whole porn theme. I don't think it's specifically about gay porn, it could be about porn in general. After all, the words do say: "I can get behind anything" - or anybody! "I ain't no movie star" - this is true, since when are porn stars good actors? they don't have to be. all the car imagery suggests sex to me. lots of rock n roll/rap songs use cars as sex metaphors. i think this song included. all the talk of "speed" makes me think of the "rush and excitement of passion." "get it out, get it all out yeah stretch that thing make it last, make it last" - i suppose porn stars are under a lot of pressure to have a good performance and "make it last." "I'm pretty sure it's genuine" - does the simulated sex look real? "but I'll take it free anytime" - maybe this means, "I'm a porn star but I still have sex for fun!" "whoever fits her usually gets her" - this is why i don't think it's exclusively about gay porn. Perhaps this means the man with the largest cock gets the loosest pussy? fun song. |
