I guess i have to educate you all Brendan is from Henderson, Nevada. Henderson is south of las vegas, it is fairly easy to see the strip from a good place. I know this because i also live in Henderson, Nevada Sam's Town is not in Las Vegas. It is a smaller casino in henderson, similar to the station casinos (you can look those up) This song talks about how nobody in this town wants to do anything great. I know, i live here. He wants to be famous and sees important things in his future (i.e. sam's town is a metaphor because it was the local casino and represented something bigger than what it was) The second verse is where he goes to the strip and sees that it isnt that special. so he looks beyond that. Because if you live near Vegas, you know its not as great as its believed to be It actually sucks Your welcome. |

This was fairly easy for me to interperet. So Brendan left his family in a way, and his old beliefs. only to find that he wanted to be accepted back in the family (the first part basically) So before, he wanted to stand up and be independent from his family and let go and he asks if they know what he means like ,"You know?" but then he feels like they dont understand him (no you don't, you don't) He wants to be remembered for ever with his music (in the hearts of men, the biblical references are kind of a metaphor for being famous) as he gets older he is feeling lonely ( head aches heart breaks) and he realizes that he is lonely and self centered and he needs some help, so he asks for it. so now he is asking his family to forgive him and if there is room for one more son. and now hes not going to change for anyone as he pleads for his parents forgiveness he says that he still has the same beliefs but he is not going to become a missionary.(hes got soul but he's not a soldier) while most people would still be trying to find their identity he has come to realize that he had it all along (the battle is won) in result to him leaving and coming back i think |

I like the Alice in Wonderland interpretation. cuz some of these lines just scream out fantasy books and cartoons. Like '"Novel petals for the stem" could literally mean Novel and stem as in stem or spine of a book. and fragile frame as in the framework of a book, like the plot. like this song has a fragile frame to it and its kinda all over the place leaving it free for interpretation? i dunno. I love it though! |
