| ahhlina, I wrote your post directly above this one off as "maybe she didn't have time to translate it," but now it's apparent that you're just a cunt. Seriously, at least these people's translations are on the site so we have an idea of what they think it is, all I could grasp from your posts are that you're Russian and off-putting-ly rude. | |

and when my noose is tied I could "blow" it that's when the trail escapes to nowhere and the flood erases the crime to split the dumbness of a vision between asleep and a sleep all ignored, real emotion's such a drag Yeah, I found a whistle that works closes my mind every time Sounds like a song about drugs? Awesome sounding song btw. |

| Vampire Weekend – Taxi Cab Lyrics | 15 years ago |

It's a post-break up song. It's all about looking back on a relationship and how close they once were and it seems to place blame on both of them, much like how a person actually looks at a break up. When you look back you don't say, "It was all her fault," you think about what you AND her did wrong. ------------ Unsentimental Traveling around Sure of myself Sure of it now He doesn't feel bad about the relationship. His way of thinking about it and coping was just driving or traveling, and he's "sure of [his feelings] now." But you were standing there so close to me Like the future was supposed to be In the aisles of the grocery And the blocks uptown Reminiscent of when they would do small thinks like shop with each other and how they were "supposed to be" together. I remember Remember well But if I'd forgotten Could you tell? He remembers everything that happened; all the problems, all the fights, and all of the good times. Not like he can prove it to her, they probably cut off communication, hence the "could you tell." In the shadow of your first attack I was questioning and looking back You said, "Baby we don't speak of that" Like a real aristocrat Best part of the song IMO. When they first started fighting, he looked back in her past and fought with something she had done, I feel like it might be cheating. Like a "real aristocrat," or someone who feels like they're better than you, she said "we don't speak of that." Whatever she did was admissible, but what he did was worth the argument. Compound to compound Lazy and safe Wanted to leave it Wanted to wait Not a litteral jail cell, but it was a relationship that was trapping them. It was "safe" to be with her, why leave when you might not find another? He was in-between breaking up and waiting to see if it would get better. When the Taxi door was open wide I pretended I was horrified By the uniform and gloves outside Of the courtyard gate I think it MAYBE a reference to how he'd take the Taxi to her apartment and he'd compare the doorman/bellhop to a warden/security guard. You're not a victim But neither am I Nostalgic for garbage Desperate for time Neither of them are really hurt, they just realized they're mainly in a relationship because they're getting old and are afraid of dying alone. When they think of their relationship, they're "nostalgic for garbage." I could blame it on your mother's hair Or the colors that your father wears But I know that I was never fair You were always fine He's describing her, and I think juxtaposing it with insults he's said to her. He would "blame it on your mother's hair," which she inherited, or her father's style which she took, but he wasn't "fair," she was fine. You were standing on another track Like a real aristocrat Like two trains passing in the night, they were heading in different directions. They were different people than in the beginning, and like "an aristocrat," she probably thought she outgrew him. My $0.02! :) |

| Vampire Weekend – Horchata Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
This song seems to be about finding love and it "dying." The beginning is about exotic things and places, like horchata (a drink), pincher crabs (on a beach somewhere), and Masada (a part of Israel, I believe). "Winter's cold is too much to handle" by himself, so he has someone with him. This could explain that they're with each other more for comfort than for actual love. "Here comes a feeling you thought you'd forgotten" is the feeling of love. Everyone's been thru that feeling where they can't find anyone else and they're alone. Things get bad. The balaclava is a ski mask, an international sign of a criminal. "Years go by and hearts start to harden / Those palms and firs that grew in your garden / Are falling down and nearing the rosebeds / The roots are shooting up through the tool shed / Those lips and teeth that asked how my day went / Are shouting up through cracks in the pavement" This should be self-explanitory. They had a "garden" of beautiful firs and rosebeds but it's falling apart and turning ugly. Those same lips that he loved are soon the lips he "buried," or murdered. He broke up with her. "Oh you had it but oh no you lost it / You understood so you shouldn't have fought it. " She saw it coming but she still disagrees and protested. That's my take! AMAZING song! I like it more than anything on the original LP!! |

It's obviously about a guy who's in love with a girl and how it's like to be next to her and deal with it. It's so obvious but she doesn't see it. Love it. |

| Jack's Mannequin – Bloodshot Lyrics | 17 years ago |

It definitely is about how people's lives are bland, pointless, and just tiring. The first verse or two is about a girl who literally starts her day behind everyone else (the mail) and how her exuberance is fading by growing up and paying bills and handling real problems. The next verse is about a Veteran painting his sights from the war. The canvas is red because all he saw was carnage and blood. No one will see this. He's making a futile attempt to show his sights to people. The hill is a symbol for life. It's just too high to climb and by the end of the day, we're all too tired to actually climb it. The last verse is saying how we're in valleys (flat land) and we just keep trying to climb the hill. We start out already defeated. That's my take :) |

| Jack's Mannequin – Miss California Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
The obvious is about a kidnapping but punkkid is right, it's about how serious dating and marriage change people and the responsibilities tied to the relationship. He isn't really bleaching her hair, but remarking that her personality changes after their relationship. She won't really be missing, her old self will be. They'll blame him because, for better or for worse, knowing/dating him changed her. I'm guessing it's for the worse because he uses the word "blame" and he equates her to "Jesus' girl." Notice how he calls her MISS California. She will be missed because, after marriage, she will become Mrs. California. Or, y'know, he could've raped her.. :P |

Saw the migrants smoke in the old orange grove And the red rocket blaze over Cape Canaveral You’ve been a father to me In 1960’s speak In the comatose joy that we’re on TV Is actually: And watch the migrants smoke in the old orange grove And the red rocket blaze over Cape Canaveral You’ve been a father to me In 1960’s speak Give me comatose joy that we’re on TV You told me victory’s sweet Even deep in the cheap seats is actually: You taught me victory’s sweet Even deep in the cheap seats Later in the song: A lonely victory sweet is actually: You told me victory’s sweet All these changes are going to fill your mind is actually: All these changes gunna fill your mind It’s been a nightmare to me is actually: It’s been a nightmare for me Saw the stars get smaller is actually: I watched the stars get smaller Great song!! |

| Coldplay – Violet Hill Lyrics | 17 years ago |

The lyric is "And the fox / became God." It says so in the newest Rolling Stone magazine. Chris Martin said it's about how "people spend their lives being told what to do by people that they just don't like. So it was that idea, and watching Bill O'Reilly, and all these words just came out." Obviously, the fox is referring to the station... He also said he fully supports Obama. |

| Coldplay – Lost! Lyrics | 17 years ago |

What a sad song. To me (this is actually sort of describing my life haha) it means that the guy feels "lost" emotionally and mentally. Not a big surprise there, but his friend, or in my situation, best friend, is secure and has a lot of friends hence the "big fish in a little pond" line. But the next line is just mean... Once his friend finds out that he's no longer the greatest, he'll be just as lost as the main character. Really, it's a sad song that just sounds like "I'm hurt, and soon enough you will be, too." Not the nicest song, but definitely the prettiest I've heard on the album. The acoustic is amazing and the album one is oddly beat-oriented. I love them both! |

| Tegan and Sara – Welcome Home Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I love this song, it's so beautiful. I can't really understand the meaning of it but I love this part: "Yes your shadow it was made for me ... Yes my shadow well it was made for me" To me, that sounds like the girl she was in love with loved her but Tegan (or Sara, I don't know who wrote this) wasn't "made" for anyone else but herself. Also, the part about her buying a car to drive to get her girlfriend back is awesome :) |

| Louis XIV – Air Traffic Control Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Wow. Try not thinking of David Bowie when listening to this song :) I think it's about a guy who tried to break away from his life but now realizes he wants to go back. "Well you were high when i met you, and now you're falling like a leaf from a tree, (wanna reach into the sea) and every time the world goes round, you're getting closer to the ground." This is about how the guy was a mess and now as time goes on, he keeps getting worse until he "crashes." "Air traffic control, I've been gone, I've been up away from home. now my gear is down, I've circled round, and i am coming in...." The guy wants help back to normality but he has lost touch with those that could help him and now he's just "circlin' round" and waiting for him to crash. The line where he says his gear is down, to me, means that he wants to land and but it doesn't matter because he can't find where to and it's no use because his "oxygen is low." "wanna race into the sea i cant hear you, can you see me? i cant see you, can you hear me?" He accepts that there's no way for him to get better so he just basically says "Fuck it, if I can't get better, then I'll just try harder to die." He also says that he can't hear or see the person that would "help him down," so he is disconnected from his help line. That's just my opinion though. |

| William Fitzsimmons – Funeral Dress Lyrics | 18 years ago |

What a beautiful and strange song. From my perspective, the song is written from the point of view of a dead guy (gasp! :) ) "But the color’s been changed to a black from white Though the difference will prob’ly be lost on me" Black is always symbolic of death and it's lost on him because he would be dead. "And don’t worry if laughter is on your lips Cause you wouldn’t be you if you changed for this And I won’t measure love from the tears that drip From your face" He's telling his girl friend to be happy and move on because he won't feel sad if she doesn't cry for him all the time. "I suppose i should hope that it turns out fine But I hope that some sadness does cross your mind And you’ll look for me when you have crossed that line Come one day" That's pretty obvious if you go with my p.o.v. He hopes she is a little sad but they'll meet again when she dies "one day." Beautiful song. |
