Lupe Fiasco – Gold Watch Lyrics 16 years ago
its not really vain, you have to realize that not everything lupe says he literally means. The things he says in this song ar slightly self-contradicting anyway so that wouldnt make sense. you have to think about what point he's trying to get across. I think, though im not sure, his point in this song is that you can have similar interest to people from different regions. you can also have what might seem to some as a clash of interests. "Jay-z Boys now i'm skating in your pool"

The chorus to me seems to be saying that both realy high-class people and ghetto people flaunt the same luxiry items such as Gold watches and nice cars.

This is lyrical genius. this is possibly even harder than long lines of alliteration and yet it still all makes sense and you can tell what they are saying.

Flobots – Happy Together Lyrics 16 years ago
Shout out to the turtles.

This song is obviously about the concerns of finding love. The first verse talks about how people are worried about wether they will be able to find someone so they'll go on blind dates etc as long as they are giving themself some chance. the song seems to focus a lot on the fact that finding someone you love is a very chance based thing with lines such as "studying how they toss the dice". This is furthered when he says that they are only a few degrees apart. out of all the bilions of people in the world the right one just happened to be someone with mutual friends with him. He mentions that in the past marriage was more or less arranged so they never had to worry about finding someone. After a few lines talking about how in love he is, there is a sudden change. he starts to talk about how things didn't work out and they've both found other partners. their relationship is now nothing more than an "uncompleted masterpiece". He also makes a rational statement "So I'd rather bind my mind with rhymes
Than blind my eyes and sever it" meaning that he would rather use music to alleviate his heartbreak than foolish bodily harm.

Flobots – Mayday!!! Lyrics 16 years ago
My favorite flobots song. just a few lines. "with a family to feed. there's nowhere we wont go" I think this means they spread benevolence anywhere it's needed.

"where the fuck are the rescue workers
not far
off pissing on a cop car
in the hall with a poptart
sipping liquor in the rockbar
everyone climb to the frontline
lunchtimes cancelled
all hands on deck to pull survivors from the landfill
onlookers passers-by brush of your shoulders
shake off that rubble
break free from your standstill"
I think that's saying that you dont need any special qualifications to fight against the problems society may have. It's a call to action to try to make change instead of sitting idly by.

"sometimes
when I wanna shut out this world
wanna rip up this page
wanna pour out this heart
wanna get up on this stage
and my lips become percussion
and my fists become the rage
and I pound on this table
til it gives me something to say
then I think about things that Ive seen
right in front of me
that I dont wanna believe
gimme one of these mikes
let me let em know"
This line kind of explains the topics of a lot thier songs. They come from things Johnny 5 (or the members in general) see that need to be changed.

Lupe Fiasco – Streets On Fire Lyrics 17 years ago
While lupe was recording this album, his recording partner Chilly got sentenced to 44 years, his friend died, and his father died. therefore he said that this lbum would have a dark undertone to it. this song is the epitome of that dark undertone.

The 2 verses talk about horrid conditions the world could be in. Verse 1 talks of a dasterdly illness spreading through everywhere. contrary to popular beliefe this disease cant be aids due to many things he says such as the fact that there is no protection and the mere infectiousness of it far surpasses an STD. also it cant be bubonic plague due to it having no signs or symptoms its just instant death. There is no way to know who has it or what the cause is. It makes everyone paranoid and unable to trust anyone else because due to the lack of signs, anyone can have it. It is possible that this "disease" is just another media scare or just munchauser's syndrome as it cant be proven to exist.

The second verse is kind of similar to the book 1984. It is a society where the government controls every thing that the people think and do. They have zero freedom. The media (antennaes and loudspeakers) leads the people to believe they have freedom when they realy dont

while both of these versus present horrific images that might jog memory of certain past events and future speculations, they far surpass anything that has ever happened like this. There has never been a disease with no type of prevention, cure, correction, remedy, protection, or even signs and symptoms. There have been many communist and totalitarian nations but its impossible for the government to literally know everything that is going on in your mind or to plant thoughts in your mind through wave transmission.

Lupe Fiasco – Superstar (Remix) Lyrics 17 years ago
DDaze about the senior citezen baby showers thing i think its like what wulf said about him using only half his potential. basically when some1 is new they usually give thier all and they burn out quick bcuz thye run out of material. he is sayign that by giving his half twice, when he should be old and washed up (like a senior citezen) it will be like hes coming out as if he's new (like a baby).

Shwayze – Buzzin' Lyrics 17 years ago
I love this song. I dont think it has much meaning just him talking about his promiscuity and experiences with one girl in particular. I like how he says
"it was hot like this song"
how could he have known this song would be a hit when he wrote it.

Cunninlynguists – Sunrise Sunset Lyrics 17 years ago
The words in this song like many dont necessarily represent what the artist himself is thinking but more of a character who is modeled after many people in real life. The first verse is basically sayign he's in a rut. THere are many wonderful things in life, as the first line says but all the troubles that most people go through take attention off the good things ("drowns out the musical")
He tries to forget his problems by drinking while contemplating making change. HE thinks about it but never actually does ("Making no turns yet my signal is blinkin'") He states that many people often find that the world doesnt give a shit. of course you have to help yourself. If you get swept up in a tide of troubles the world isn't going to help bcuz to it u are just another person. He admits that he tries to fill a void created by problems with drugs and promiscuity but then realizes that he is setting a bad example for the next generation. After this realization he continues his same behavior anyway.

The second verse is mostly about attitude and its effects. Notice the word "it" is use many times. some of the time the antecedent for "it" is negativity and sometimes its soldier. The soldier represents the tough person while the negativity is a reaction to tough times. This time the character starts out in a situation where he needs to make a living and is contemplating doing what he knows wrong in order to do so. He then realizes that life is affected not only by actions but also feelings. Negativity is the things that trouble people in life. a metaphorical soldier can always resist its poisonous effects w.o. luck ("needn't lucks blessing from clovers"). the soldier fights from "morning to night, back through darkness to light" which means that he never gives up and is able to turn a bad situation into a good one. What you do with this will power is "yo right". you can call it christ, as many ppl turn to religion for strength, you can ignore will power completely and give in to the negativity but "you reap what you sew" (biblical allusion) means your actions will have matching consequences.
"the world's a treasure chest of misused jewels" means that things such as nuclear power can be used for good but are corrupted sometimes. also people are misused. Thos who lack endurance wil crumble ("their used to blue skies got grey stains") and they wont be able to trust anyone (are surrounded by friends who got snake fangs)
in regard to the negativity you cant just ignore it but you have to fight against it.
"cut power when docs try to shock it" refers to the electric shock associated with heart difibrilation which is used to revive people in cardiac arrest. by cut power they mean to prevent people form bringing back the negativity.
hope this helps you SinoYank

for one thing many corrections need to be made just to name a few:
1.not be marvelled on the speakers plz but "be minful of the speakers please"

2.i think its not "coz we" but "kobe"

3 "so many damn rappers there's a CIPHER in heaven"(a cipher is like a freestyle battle)

4not steady jumpin' round but "steady dropping rhymes"
besides that good job with the lyrics

Talib Kweli – Get By Lyrics 18 years ago
he very much is underrated (if i had my way itd be more him and less lil wayne)

this song is simple to understand at least. it talks about struggles some people have to go through to make ends meet such as selling drugs and how consumers are exploited by marketers just for the marketers to make ends meet(not neccissarily a bad thing just survival) it also seems to say that tv glorifies acting and the such more than endeavors of astronauts.

OutKast – Roses (feat. Big Boi) Lyrics 18 years ago
roses are flowers that ppl often smell in movies and pretend smell good. they are typically considered attractive. rose realy smell like boo-boo refers to the fact that roses in real life smell like shit--dont judge a book by its cover basically(roses here got nothing to do with vaginas)

yes golden calculator also refers like much the rest of the song to gold diggin.
i think down to mars is just thier wacky way of saying down to earth.
overall the songs message is dont be a golddigger and dont chase golddiggers

OutKast – Hey Ya! Lyrics 18 years ago
the song starts off with a naive statement about true love then slowy drifts into rhetorical questions about how true love realy is. The one salvation is in "mom and dad for sticking through together"
if nothing lasts forever "then what makes love the exception" is the final rhetorical question preceeding the statement "we're not happy here"
afterwards dre mentions the fact that the song's meaning might be lost in the catchy dancy beat following this is a more promiscous attitude. the message of the song is basically "love is blind"

i dont completely understand the song but i think every verse of the song talks about hollywood divorce or both in a different light.
lil wayne's is about how hollywood maltreats people and corrupts them too(i usually dont like lil wayne but hes good in this one)
Dre's verse i dont rly understand...
Big Boi is talking about how media and haters slander them w.o. reparations
Snoop's verse seems to be about actual divorce starting from the "i do" of a marriage and going to the split up
