Feist – Sea Lion Woman Lyrics 18 years ago
Okay, one more post only right now, I promise. Pride and Sloth are both supposedly associated with blue. (the others are the same color as the verses I linked them with)

Coincidence? I don't think so...

One more thing (sorry). It implies 'she drink coffee' and 'she drink tea' at night... unconventional...

Also, as to earlier explanation by me, maybe the bridal verse is redemption? or she's being fake and using him? that would be greed perhaps.... ???

I just thought of something - the seven deadly sins!
Pride - ?
Envy would be the green, silver, gold verse
Gluttony - nobody really needs coffee and tea all night
Lust - obviously, the red verse
Anger - black
Greed - maybe the green again?
Sloth - blue, perhaps? I would think that verse is about making him do stuff for her...

I don't know, that's kind of iffy, but it might make sense... The biblical type thing fits b/c supposedly the original 'sea lion' was actually 'selah' (it was an old jumprope song or spiritual before simone's version) which is a Bible term meaning (basically) 'think on this carefully'. Can anybody else find credibility in this explanation?

Feist – The Water Lyrics 18 years ago
I think the sea is a metaphor for changing emotions in one person in the relationship, and the other person is the mountain, immovable and sharp, but reliable.

(this is adding to greentea's interpretation)

It reminds me of "The Lady is a Tramp" that the old jazz singers sing. :) Same theme, similar 'feel' to it.

Feist – Honey Honey Lyrics 18 years ago
It made me think of the Chekhov play "Wild Honey" b/c of the obvious "honey" and the singing in the background that sounds like a train whistle. And then I looked up the plot and it sounds like it could be related. (I had only seen my mom's old poster :P She saw Ian McKellan live in this play!!!) But it's about an old man that was once promising but the events of his life have reduced him to a poor schoolmaster in a village, cheating on his wife to try to "complete himself". I think this song could be from the young wife's point of view. She's mourning his loss of his dignity and purpose (he's "lost", "at sea", etc), even though she still loves him. The "food for the bees" is him; that's a motif in the play, he's the sweet honey and he's being eaten by the bees, or the women (I'm not explaining that right, but you get the idea....)

Panic! at the Disco – Nails For Breakfast, Tacks For Snacks Lyrics 18 years ago
Oh, I just read this page (I skimmed before, tisk, tisk) and I didn't know his father was an alcoholic! That makes sense (the song I mean.) How sad. I still think he meant it to be a more universal song for people who have dealt with the medical system. Anyway, thanks for the info, everybody!

Panic! at the Disco – Camisado (Relax, Relapse) Lyrics 18 years ago
It makes sense that it's about his dad... but what do these lines mean, everything else makes sense.
The anesthetic never set in and I'm wondering where
The apathy and urgency is that I thought I phoned in

Panic! at the Disco – Nails For Breakfast, Tacks For Snacks Lyrics 18 years ago
I think it's about a doctor and a patient. I don't know any of these references everyone's mentioning, so I guess I don't have the full story. Still, from my experience (I'm "on first name basis with all the top physicians" in a way) the song could just be about the doctor and patient. At the beginning it talks about the patient with slurred speech, which can happen if you're just in lots of pain... then they prescribe pills. Then they have to fix your ulcers with pills. And they have to fix those side effects with more pills... Anyway, then it talks about the doctor at hospice. Maybe it's a getaway b/c there's no pressure. Patients in hospice aren't rushing for a diagnosis... And the God thing, I think, is about how very few doctors stay Christian. "No, he called in..." And I know that I don't feel like God's on my side when I have a painful day. And every word gets you closer to hell makes sense b/c when you're in pain you don't think about what you say (and you cuss ;) ). And the "alone" bit could be the patient talking about the doctor... "She never fixes this, but at least she..." It tapers off b/c sometimes you just don't feel like your doctor does anything for you, and you don't feel like you have any allies.

Whew, that was too long, sorry. But that's my take. :)
