i dont think its about atheism specifically. in fact despite the references to god, heaven, hell, etc i never really got that idea. to me this song is about resilience, even when things look bad you have to roll with it and keep standing strong no matter how hard it may be. and that "untouchable" line always gets me. so powerful. |

to me this song is about getting over your problems, seen from the view of "god" or "fate" or what have you.. they pull off the metaphorical wings of someone by dealing a tragic event, and the person adapts. "it's like you never had wings", "i've watched you change", "and you feel so alive" etc
