I'm thinking of putting this song against photoes from Obama's term as soon as we se what type of president he is. Now I know a lot of people won't agree with my political opinions, but to me this song is about someone powerful you look up to and depend on who will lead you down. This could be satan himself, a corrupt person, or a political leader.

I usually stick to the assumption that an artist will try to stick their meaning of a song through the music video. But with this song, I really can't see it as a song about a dead girl. Why would you try to put yourself in the diary of a girl who can't write one. The way I see it is trying to get and impress a girl who you love but can't have and/or won't have you.

OK, people who are saying everybody's wrong and saying it's just about drugs. Here's your two lines of glory. Addiction needs a pacifier, The buzz of this poison is taking me higher It's only two lines of a complex song! Drugs (although it just says addiction and that could be a lot of things) might be a part of this song, but it is not the entire. Plus if you want to know the author's motivation for the song the music video usually tells a lot. And the music video shows all the outcasts of schools, even an outcast teacher. So this song's not simply and only about drugs. Everybody has their own expectation, respect that.

This song is a parady on all country songs. He never meant it to be beautiful or anything, he wrote it to make fun of country (kind of ironic now, as more and more people consider him a country artist).

Responding to Ashley765, i don't think that "dawn will turn to silver glass" means freezing, and the end. When I see those lyrics, I think of the color of the ocean. Dawn switching to silver glass means the transition from day to night (silver glass being color of the moon hitting the water). So in a way it is relating to the songs theme from of passing away and dying. Its a beautiful use of symbols.
