I didn't say anything at all about the interpretation. thehonorstudent said TAYF debuted at #3 on billboard, he/she was wrong. I just simply stated the facts. I never said that TBS is good because they sell a lot of albums. I'm well aware that being popular doesn't mean being talented but how would you define success then? Whether the music has been good or not is one thing, but TBS has taken the band to great heights since John and Shaun left.. being signed to Warner Bros.(One of the "Big 4" major labels), headlining tours all around the world, selling out huge amphitheaters, playing at LIVE EARTH, 2 going on 3 gold records. They may not be as good as they were in TAYF days but are wayy more successful. For the record, Tell All Your Friends is my favorite album of all-time and TBS will most likely always be my favorite band because of what that album did for me. I've learned to like most of what they've put out since but nothing has made an impact on me like TAYF did. I first heard "cute w/o the e" not too long after TAYF came out but didn't really get into them until the very end of the Nolan era in mid 2003. I feel like I've grown up with them. I'm not some teenybopper fanboy but I'm not a TAYF obsessed TBS basher. I don't compare album they put out to TAYF because that's just stupid. I'm hard on TBS though because I expect a lot out of them but I'm completely fair with them. For me, New Again was a huge letdown because I know it should have been a lot better. Adam had all the inspiration in the world...a band member leave on bad terms, an ugly breakup that went public. I was expecting another WYWTB, which I would have been thrilled with. I've learned to like most of the songs song the album but only really LOVE this song and EMG. Adam has become a very lazy songwriter. Whether their label had something to do with their song structure or lyric content or not, I don't know. |

substance abuse for sure. Anyone think this song could be about Northstar's bass player, Jake Fisher? From my understanding he was an alcoholic & had a nasty heroine addiction and was the main reason Northstar broke up. It makes sense because it was one of the first songs Nick wrote for Cassino. WRONG. Get your facts straight. Tell All Your Friends did NOT debut at #3 on Billboard, Where You Want To Be did. And they DID reach that success again when Louder Now debuted at #2 on Billboard (selling more copies than Bruce Springsteen). New Again debuted at #7. TAYF did not come close to these numbers. Your are an idiot if you think TBS is less successful now than the TAYF days. |

John is an awesome songwriter but Fred is absolutely shit. Although I do like Breaking Pangaea and some Brody songs, his lyrics for The Color Fred are boring/generic. Just some god awful pop punk bullshit. I don't think Adam is a brilliant songwriter(he's pretty good but not great)but his lyrics kick the shit out of Freds. Freds a nice guy, a sick guitarist but a shitty lyricist. What makes you think Fred had more influence on WYWTB than Adam? Most of the songs on there are about issues that happened with Adam. I remember reading an interview with Fred where he said when he first met with Adam to write for WYWTB, he had to sit back and let Adam do his own thing because he was coming up with some of his best work yet. I'll try to find a link. I'm confident when I say Adam wrote most of the lyrics for WYWTB. I will agree that Adam has become a lazy songwriter but I think that has a lot to do with the fact that they're on a major label. Warner Bros. wants radio hits. |

Adam wrote this on the TBS yahoo message board back in '02: yes, the line is "a thousand clever lines unread on clever napkins" .....brief history: for a long time i waited tables at this awful restaurant and when i was working i would write on everything i could get my hands on.. napkins, receipts, my shoes, small children.. you name it i wrote on it.. and whenever i would get home i would sit down and try to sort threw all this stuff that was just taking up space in my pockets but there were so much that alot of it got lost due to my short short attention span. hence...."a thousand clever lines unread on clever napkins" there you go.. I just thought i'd throw that out there. |

this glass house, when i first heard this song i thought the same thing you did because when you read the lyrics and think about what happened with adam, john and michelle, it makes sooo much sense. However, how could this song be about john and michelle if it was written and preformed live when john was still in the band??? If you would have read my post correctly you would have seen that i said that the demo for this song was named "ellieisomghawt". It was recorded but never released and was even played at a few shows. then when john left tbs the band changed the parts where he sang and renamed the song "slowdance on the inside". There is also a video on youtube of the band preforming your own disaster with the old lineup and michelle singing. At the bridge Adam sings "so while your taking me for granted, i'll be humming along". Unless adam made slowdance have a new meaning when john left the band, it isnt about john or michelle, althought, again, it makes total sense if it was especially "this glass house" and "and i'm boring like his songs" parts. "oh and by the way" i HAVE also read article after article and interview after interview about the breakup and i have a pretty good idea of exactly what happened and how it ended. The connections you are trying put together make total sense for this song, their just not there. Facts are facts. But I shouldnt have dismissed your ideas because i thought the same aand they are logical. For what it's worth i read an article a while ago in the new york nightlife magazine and they said this song is a fuck you to jesse and brand new. p.s. lol what gave you any indication that i thought adam was a "god"? He is a cheater, a former coke addict and, yes, a bitch but i still love his music and the songs he writes. i am in no way a fan of adam lazzara the person. |

wow , this glass house, you couldnt be any farther from the truth on most of these songs. Youre trying to make way too many connections with all these songs its ridiculous. You have no idea. First off ...slowdance on the inside is NOT about michelle or john. I'm not quiet sure what it is about but this song was written when john was still in the band. If you dont already know, theres a demo for called "Ellieisomghawt". To my knowledge theres only a live version of it but John is definitely singing in it. So you can just throw the idea of it being an appology to michelle out the window. haha, and you were completely off with youre interpretation of a decade under the influence too. Theres a video on youtube of adam explaining what it is about. He said its about awkward car ride. Adam said him and his girlfriend just broke up and they had tickets to a Coldplay concert at the tweeter center in NJ and they both wanted to go and it was really awkward bc they just broke up. |
