| He's referring to Maleek Yusef, a contemporary poet/rapper, I'm nearly certain. | |
| The Postal Service – The District Sleeps Alone Tonight Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"The district sleeps alone tonight After the bars turn out their lights And send the autos swerving Into the loneliest evening" I wanted to point out that, in my opinion, this has nothing to do with the narrator going to a bar, getting drunk, etc. I feel like its just saying that the district sleeps alone because it's full of 'visitors' (those who have for w/e reason moved to DC, but have no real roots there) with no true connection to the city itself, nor it's inhabitants, beyond the shallow socialization at the bars. As they leave the bars, they leave behind the only relationships they have. They're going back to their home full of emptiness, to spend the rest of the night alone. Truly a "loneliest evening," one might say. |
