I am an atheist, as well. It's not a philosophy. It's not even a view of the world. It's simply the refusal to deny the obvious. However, unfortunately we live in a society where the obvious is so often overlooked as a matter of principle. Quite frankly, 'atheism' is a term that shouldn't even exist. It's nothing more than the four syllable noise we must utter in the prescence of religious dogma. But consider the following: The city of New Orleans was obliterated by the Hurricane Katrina. At least a thousand people died, tens of thousands lost all their earthly possessions, and over a million people have been displaced. It's a safe bet that the majority of the people in that city believed in a God. But where was their God when disaster struck? Surely He heard the prayers of the elderly men and woman who fled the steadily rising water to the 'safety' of their attics, only to be drowned there. These were good men and women who had prayed throughout their lives, people of faith. Only the atheist has the courage to admit the obvious: these people were living in the company of an imaginary friend. Is God willing to prevent evil? But not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is He able? But not willing? Then He is malevolent. Is He both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is He neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? Read Epicurus, he knows where it's at. |

| Within Temptation – Crucify (Tori Amos cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |

This song really isn't about God, though. When it talks about crucifying yourself, it's talking about blaming yourself. Every day. That nothing you do is every good enough, and so you're hanging yourelf up. Not religious. I know Tori, big fan for many years. And this is a cover that I actually found to be very nice. =) |

i'm really suprised no one has commented on this song yet. it says what a lot of people can not and in such a beautiful way. the song sounds to me almost desperate and pleading. so, here's my outlook on it: "Tell me that we'll be fine Just cover up my eyes For me Tell me another lie You know that i don't mind Fool me" {to me this says that he's in a relationship with a girl who's either not exactly faithful to him, or doesn't really feel for him in the way he does for her, but to him that doesn't matter. he'd rather be lied to, bcuz the lies are what's keeping him going. he'd rather be in love with a lie than not be in love at all.} "I, I, I, I, I, I, need this I need this" {again, he needs this relationship to keep going.} "If it is just for show Dont ever tell me so I beg you Say what I want to hear Cover my burning ears From the truth" {he's pleading with his girl that, if she's really just doing this to have a boyfriend and doesn't actually care about him, he'd rather not know. he'd rather have her lie.} "I, I, I, I, I, I, need this I need this" {same as above.} "So give me something to believe The slightest word is all i need Do all you can to keep me blind And i'll pretend that i'm alright I'm in the dark So let me stay Just tell me to turn away" {he doesn't need much to believe in this lie. just a word, a phrase, a sentence. that's all it'll take to keep him going. even if he know its not true. he'll pretend he's okay. and when she cant keep up the act, he'll just leave until she's ready for him again.} "Let me believe in you You know that I want to Hold on I see it in your eyes But i'd rather live a lie Than say goodbye" {maybe she's feeling guilty about all of this and she wants to break it off. but he just wants to pretend. he'd rather live a lie than say goodbye, pretty straightforward.} "I, I, I, I, I, I, need this I need this So give me something to believe The slightest word is all i need Do all you can to keep me blind And i'll pretend that i'm alright I'm in the dark So let me stay Just tell me to turn away I need this" {all the same as above.} now. thats just how i look at it, maybe i'm wrong. but it seems pretty straightforward to me. amazing song. hope to see them live sometime.
