You can almost picture him driving away - with his heart in his hand. Makes me feel sorry, like he tried and she didn't accept his offer. That feeling sucks. |

Two people drawn to each other by lust. Don't have a solid ground and probably a superficial relationship based on a lot of sex a whole lot of booze. In the end, it's not enough to make it last. |

Was involved with a man who was recently leaving his wife. I too am divorced and we clung to eachother. Me because I wanted to comfort him, and him because he needed comforting. This song got us through the whole thing. Eventually we "took our broken hearts" and left, but this song definitely kept us with level heads so that we wouldn't fall in love. We knew it would "be over soon". |

This song is so powerful. Especially for women because a woman sings it and with such conviction too. I play this song from time to time to center me when everyone's opinions start to cloud me. |

I absolutely love this song! Such a classic. I like to focus on the positive version of these meanings. She is his "sunshine". :o) |

annee0531 - you're forgiven. I like how the interpretations to this song don't vary much. It's pretty much the kind of song we can universally relate to.
How can something so bad feel so damned good? Here's the line I was given when ending one of these cursed relationships "We can either be really good friends or we can be really good lovers, but we can't be both". We both knew it was toxic. All our FRIENDS knew it was toxic... but it felt so f'n good! Another reference was "how do go from hot n heavy to hostile?" lol. That was my favorite. |

Addicted to drugs... addicted to love... it’s all the same - an addict is an addict. It’s funny how everyone’s interpretations reflect a little glimpse of themselves in it. I personally hate to admit it, but I focus on his feelings of loneliness (alone the morning after). For anyone who is codependent and needs to have someone to wake up to, it is a very lonely feeling to wake up to nothing and the fact that she is still there the morning after signifies that she is not like all the others. He hopes that she is not like all the others and wants her to "say yes". A love hangover is no more dangerous than a drug hangover. |

Wow, I agree with everyone. It's so easy to relate because I think everyone has had a similar experience. On both ends - the lover who wants something meaningful and the one who stays for sheer pity. |
