a couple of changes to consider: But my heart it asks just one more time Are you still amiss One day your reign(or rain) will come to wash away The earth that held us was no island |

Thinking about this more.. some things don't match up: Isaiah would be a few years old at least when the Rake killed him and when the Queen created William she called the form she found a baby. The Rake beat and killed his young son, burned his body to ashes, and buried him in an urn. The Queen finds an abandoned(discarded) entombed(dead) baby in a cradle of clay(clay urn), saves(resurrects) him by turning him into a fawn by day, man by night. More of the process of the Queen finding the baby(Isaiah) who becomes William is found in the song "The Wanting Comes in Waves/Repaid": William: You delivered me from danger then Pulled my cradle from the reedy glen Swore to save me from the world of men Queen: How I made you, I wrought you, I pulled you From ore I labored you From cancer I cradled you Remember when I found you The miseries that hounded you And I gave you motion, anointed you with lotions I'm still pretty set on William being a "saved" Isaiah... there are a lot of parallels between both their stories... and what a weaker impact some random baby has being found and turned into William. |

If my theory is right than the third verse is actually William talking to the Rake in person when he finally catches up with him. Very subtle but it is kind of a big revelation. It ties up the Rake encounter as William takes revenge and saves Margaret. Check out my comment in "The Queen's Rebuke/The Crossing" where I dabble in the idea that William is the Rake's killed son Isaiah. |

It seems to me that William is the Rake's dead son Isaiah resurrected by the Queen. Maybe this was brought up elsewhere... seems like a strange twist to the story. Maybe just a coincidence. First in "The Rake's Song": Isaiah fought but was easily bested Burned his body for incurring my wrath "The Queen's Rebuke/The Crossing": And he was a baby, abandoned entombed in a cradle of clay And I was the soul that took pity and stole him away And gave him the form of a fawn to inhabit by day Bright as day, it's my day "The Hazards of Love 3 (Revenge!)": Spare the rod, you'll spoil the child, but I prefer the lash My sisters drowned and poisoned all and me reduced to ash And buried in an urn, but father I return |
