I like how well the song ties in many different places with so few words; no matter which location you identify with, you can relate to the feeling of the song. However, it's always bugged me that there isn't any building with 97 or more floors in Tokyo. |

It sounds like he's sad when he says that it was "just god." Doesn't much seem like a religious person would be disappointed with the appearance of god instead of an alien. I figure it's about all the different and conflicting things you're told in life, about god and everything, and that everyone just wants to deceive you with "better reasons to believe." |

| Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – C.I.A. Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Maybe it's about how the CIA can do as they will, and regardless of the outcome, good or bad, they have the power to know whatever they want, and do what they will without much reprocussion. I agree with the desperation bit; he's saying that whatever bad he's done he doesn't deserve to be locked away or spied on. | |

What I got from it was that it's both about war and about personal stuff, the latter of which is pretty obvious in the lyrics. I also though, though, that the war being over bit might be about Iraq, in that Bush declared the war over and victory and all that, but it just ain't so. There's the line "We won/Or we think we did," and the fact that all this bad and unhappy stuff happens in relationships, but at least the war is over. It's like, yeah, you've got problems, but look, we won a war, and that's pretty sweet. Then again, it could be as simple as the war is over, and look how everything's changed. Works both ways, I think. |
