for the more musical. i believe the beginning part is in 7/8 time. correct me if i'm wrong but my ear's normally pretty good at picking those things up. anyway it just gets you off guard when they effectively skip a beat at the end of each bar and does for me emphasise the way that it should be 2 + 2 = 4 but it's not. we expect the conventional 4 beats in a bar and that's what we hear until the last beat. common feature in a lot of radiohead songs, playing with the bar lengths, and time signatures, makes it on edge - something missing from society - things aren't adding up. this is obviously stretching it a bit , but i do think there is something that heightens the sense of something seriously wrong with society. thoughts? |

| Muse – Sing for Absolution Lyrics | 18 years ago |

rings bells of "creep" by radiohead. he sees perfection in his "beautiful" he is obsessed with her and he wants perfection. psychopathic tendencies of the narrator lead him to tiptoe to her room, murder her, (lips are turning blue) we have the image of him taking her last kiss (that can't renew) and she never knew. a stalker? this is a bit literal but it fits well for me the whole song is one long imagery. he seeks fulfillment in murdering her. he wants absolution, and i hear it as "i won't remain unrectified" is definitely the most powerful line. i also hear "falling from her grave" which i like better - her grave (killed) and from heaven, angelic. ooh it all fits for me and then it does fit into the whole government conspiracy towards global sin idea, which he probably did aim for, but he doesn't do the politics thing nearly aswell as thom yorke has done. still matt is a great song writer |

someone said, this song is so deep. it's catchy, and that's all it has. just a simple love song, no poetic brilliance, and it's certainly not original. it's the perfect formula for a top twenty hit. so yeah it will be a hit (someone said that). but just to dispell any rumours that this song has deep meanings set to inspirationally original music, it's not. but it's alright. im seeing them tomorrow. =] |
