Owen – One of These Days Lyrics 18 years ago
makes me think of how addicting consumerism, spawned by "narcissistic capitalism," can be. and how it can jade one's perspective on what is truly important in this life.

"one of these days i'll give up and give into the man."

Erich Fromm wrote a book called "To Have or To Be" that speaks of the same topic.

Owen – Windows And Doorways Lyrics 18 years ago
an ode to how the "music scene," if you will, is constantly evolving, yet at the same, remains the same at its core ("The same way the earth moves around the sun. The weight of gravity pulls on everyone.") i would imagine the line, "and i'm afraid of you tonight, those striped socks and punk rock pajamas," is speaking to the anxiety a musician experiences when performing for people who are likely to form a strong opinion (judgment) about their creation.

Owen – A Bird In Hand Lyrics 18 years ago
BMAN... i never thought of it that way, but i love your interpretation! for us married men, i think we can all relate, eh? in relationships (solid ones, at least), there is a connection that transcends arguments and conflict. it seems to speak to the innate dichotomy of relationships (that you can resent the one you love). to add to BMAN's post, i think that's what this song has to do with (that connection), particularly:

"When I put my arms around you I mean it.
When I'm too drunk to stay up with you I mean it.
When I slam doors when I'm pissed at you I mean it.
When I put on a suit and say I do I mean."

Owen – Use Your Words Lyrics 18 years ago
to me, this songs speaks to how powerful the creation of one person can be to another ("...and how it meant more to you
than who they were written for"). how we are often influenced by the creativity of others, as a result of our own idiosyncratic interpretation. we, as humans, have the incredible ability to imbue things (creatively speaking) with meaning, a meaning that is often very personal, and may not be exactly the same as that which the "thing" was created for (or by).

i love this song.

Owen – Bags Of Bones Lyrics 18 years ago
this song, to me, represents the recognition of one's mortality- the fact that all we really are is a "bag of bone," and further that we all, on a very deep level, wish we were immortal ("If only these broken bodies were ours forever").

Ernest Becker has a book called "The Denial of Death," which I highly recommend.
