Seems to be about a heroin (or possibly ketamine) addict. "You know once I start I cannot help myself And now it's starting up, Feels like I'm losing touch Nothing matters to me, Nothing matters as much I see you left a mark, Up and down my skin, skin, skin" Trent claims that he is sober, so it could be about his past, or told from someone else's perspective. I think the lyrics support this interpretation more strongly than any of the others. |

It's funny how most people think it's about a girl. I guess that just shows how much people are used to metaphors in rock music. Personally, I think this is one case where "drug" actually means "drug"... probably cocaine, due to his recently publicized problems with it. And yes, absinthe is the drug shown in the video, but that was a creation of the video's director. The video also shows him mourning the death of a child, which has nothing to do with the song. Trent never had a problem with absinthe as far as I know. And one other thing... absinthe is not hallucinatory, it's just alcohol with the crappy drug "thujone" in it. Thujone does not cause hallucinations; in fact, it works against the alcohol by blocking the neurotransmitter GABA, which is what alcohol releases to make you feel relaxed. So essentially it is worse than regular alcohol. It's all hype. |
