@[samfield3cc:25781] You are exactly right. Don’t forget to love others though. That’s our one true gift to each other. Not just sexual love but kindness and sacrifice to help others and brighten their day. One day this will die. Spread love. |

| Wow, this song means so much...i will try later to unpack it all. But yes, there is a world somewhere that’s a little bit different...I’ve seen how you think it is. Brilliant | |
| Beck – Steal My Body Home Lyrics | 8 years ago |
| @[eliash:23102] well at least you felt something from it. The lyrics have a vague unsettled feeling for sure. The music has a feeling of riding slowly in a horse drawn coffin towards the afterlife which obviously involves kicking back on the porch with a twisted jugband. | |

| Best song on Soup. Very haunting. | |
| Beck – Painted Eyelids Lyrics | 8 years ago |

@[placeboheadwound:22679] Spot on. Just heard the song again. One of the best "classic" (i.e before Odelay) Beck songs. I too, love the closing line about the clearest dream that ever drifted by that's heard as the song drifts out of consciousness. |

@[Sonne911:20561] Thank you for that. I agree with everything you said 100%. Moderation is key in all things. It's just really hard to be moderate with something that feels so good. |

| Neutral Milk Hotel – Naomi Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| longings of the heart and soul...this song is not about a literal girl. you people who focus on literalness upset me. naomi is just the personification of the author's longings. | |
| The Flaming Lips – Suddenly Everything Has Changed Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
this song is about the sudden onset of a panic attack. one of the hallmark features of a panic attack is the feeling of impending doom or death. This fits with Wayne's own interpretation (Death Anxiety Caused By Moments Of Boredom). Panic attacks can occur at any moment...usually during the most mundane of activities. Interestingly the 2nd verse involving the sky accelerating the clouds forming geometric shapes has the hallmarks of an acid flashback. LSD can mimic the symptoms of panic disorder, and can certainly cause "death anxiety". I believe Wayne is alluding to that here in this song. Nevertheless it is an amazing song and probably my favorite on the album. |

| Thank you Bad_teeth for your interpretation. It's refreshing to read someone who goes beyond the surface readings that make up 95% of the posts on here. I too have always felt a strong sense of uneasiness, foreboding, and something vaguely sinister in this beautiful song. | |
| My Morning Jacket – At Dawn Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| this song gives me chills and speaks to something much deeper. much deeper than can be explained. whatever was going on in Jim James head he expressed it so hauntingly sweet. | |
| Hum – Afternoon with the Axolotis Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
from: http://www.h-u-m.net/lyrics/dih.php "Afternoon With The Axolotls" She hits the blade with both hands high. Downward is heavenward, and we are not alone. Condensers on and the drop is found, a fingertip trace says to me I can see you and you are wet. A bed of dead leaves grace the ground, a quick glance to the other side and we will not be found. Symbionts in haste demand come close, screams to me I can see you above the rest. And through it all she seems secure. Downward is heavenward, and we are not alone. Head thrown back, a sickened sigh, her eyes shut, Beelzebub can we do this without a net? |

| Hum – Isle of the Cheetah Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Hum lyrics (especially on this album) are usually a scientific slant towards the ineffability of the human experience. Anyone who has experienced psychedelic (or otherwise) ego loss should understand that the best way to explain the mystery of life is to not even try. | |
| Hum – Isle of the Cheetah Lyrics | 13 years ago |

from: http://www.h-u-m.net/ "Isle Of The Cheetah" Chance brought me down on your side, she's just along for the ride. Wings melt and we hide, and all this means nothing to the sun. Are we leaving this one? Mine comes true here, bruised, expanding clear. Mind full of you here, I won't claim losses in the sun. Are we leaving this one? And swift out, she goes to the last frame. Short lives and long days and if I stay, then we'll lay way to you. Your ocean spreads out on sunbeams, radiant, knowing. And your hand looks so nice in mine. And its been a thousand years seen since inception, and you're radiant, glowing. And they say that you're doing fine. Your ocean spreads out on sunbeams, radiant, knowing. Your hand looks so nice in mine. And the new construct will have both of us, stapled to the island for awhile. And they say that you're doing fine. |

| Radiohead – Exit Music (For a Film) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
i love how Radiohead issues commands to its listeners within their songs. "breathe, keep breathing" is an essential command to anyone listening. the command comes in most handy when peaking on LSD and trying to get the perfect bong hit. For some reason songs like this always come on at just the right time of your acid trip. it says "relax, you're going to be tripping for a while...keep breathing, that's the most important thing...put the bong down...you can smoke more later...but for right now...take some oxygen breaths..." radiohead vocals/lyrics have quite the chilling/sinister effect under psychotropic drugs. Hopefully they will cause you to put down the bong - relax and enjoy your life... |

hey man, slow down... for some reason this line has a lot of meaning when you're in the midst of a psychedelic experience. i'm not saying that psychotropic drugs are a healthy way to enhance musical pleasure, but for some reason hearing this song on LSD will usually cause you to put down the bong, because you will hear it as a command...a command from Thom to slow down...hey man, slow down, you don't have to smoke that entire bag of pot tonight...save some for tomorrow...slow down, you're going to be tripping all night...slow down...look around...put down the bong...please... i'm pretty sure that's the point of the song when you're on psychedlic drugs and smoking out of a bong... |
