Not the sharpest knife in the Crash Love drawer, but enjoyable nonetheless. A nice change to a very upbeat song from the usual dark, morose sound we're all used to getting from Davey and the AFI gang. But here are my two cents... I believe this is a song that describes someone who acted like a fool (let's call him Danny for the sake of my explanation) to a person that loved them dearly (say hello to danny's girl, Rochelle) only for Rochelle to leave brokenhearted and Danny realizing the damage he's done. And unfortunately, right when you realize things, it's too late to fix them. Overall moral of the song? Love those who comes into your life, you'll never know when tomorrow with that person would never come. The first verse emphasizes the fact that most men only care about having fun and riding out their youthful years. And sometimes, it involves a time where someone's feelings would be hurt. In this song, Danny meets Rochelle, and Rochelle tries to make a move on Danny. Despite her efforts, Danny continues about his life without sharing it with Rochelle, which leaves her hurt. The following basically sold the meaning of this song to me... "Dying just to see you/dying since i misconstrued your..." Self-explanatory. Danny realized the wrong he's done and is longing for Rochelle to come back in his life so they can mend things together. "Blue heart....black eyes" Quick to point out that Davey could have gone the other way when he wrote this (think about "blue eyes...black heart), which is probably intentional on Davey's part, which means that "Rochelle" is one of those people that might look like a terrible person on the outside (black eyes), but is a genuinely sweet person in the inside (blue heart), and Danny misjudged Rochelle because of that. "feigning, falling words I won't forget" Danny remembers evey hurtful thing he said to Rochelle, it echoes in his head constantly, and he regrets it. "I died...right when I...saw you while you shared that cigarette..." This is a metaphor relating to, literally, a cigarette. Danny's little fling with Rochelle is a thing that sucks the life out of Danny and it affects those that are close to Danny (friends and family). Danny wants to start things over with Rochelle again, but she either left Danny or is dating someone else. Second verse is pretty much the same. And oh...I love it when Jade's guitar riffs in the middle of the chorus (cue it right after Davey sings out "I died, right when I..." in the chorus) |

Wow, his accent distinctively sticks out in this song, especially when he says "audience of one". That's cute, btw. Anyways, I loved this song much and enjoyed ATR. I don't know, I guess I adapt easily whenever a band changes their sound. |

zepfreak, it's something called a "metaphor". have you ever heard of it? off what you said, i guess not. a metaphor is something that doesn't have to be true, it's just the whole point in a nutshell. in this case, lines like "sometimes the snow comes down in june" and "sometimes the sun goes round the moon" is referring to expecting the unexpected, therefore, saving the best for that sense of surprise. |

i totally couldn't agree with you guys any more regarding this one. i too, felt the 80s vibe in this song. kinda arena rockish. is it just me or does this song have a whitesnake touch to it? whenever i would hear this song it reminds me of whitesnake's "here i go again" for some reason. |

I think this is a song about someone who is obsessed over someone they know cannot get. And i think that someone who this person is obsessed with has a boyfriend/girlfriend. Some names, so that i don't confuse you all.... Jane (the girl who's madly obsessed and infatuated) James (the guy Jane is sprung over) Claire (James' girlfriend) The first verse is basically James' side of the story in his own point of view, what he wants to say to Jane... "I swear to you I’m not the one I swear so I’ll become Your only... So if you are confined to me I swear that you will be So lonely..." James is telling Jane that he is flattered that he's the only guy that Jane wants, but reminds her that he isn't interested with her at the moment and he loves someone else and asks Jane to refrain from falling into a deeper infatuation with him, to the point it becomes a distraction between him and his girl, Claire. "Your airs of grace, your airs of grace will fill me Your airs of grace, your airs of grace will fill me Your airs of grace, your airs of grace will fill me Your airs of grace, your airs of grace just kill me" Jane persists on sparking something with James (i.e. sends him love letters, gifts, hugs, and all that) and it gets to the point that Claire notices this and eventually, cuts all ties with James, therefore sabotaging James' relationship with Claire. "I swear to you I’m not the one I swear so I’ll become Your only So if you are confined to me I swear you will be So lonely... Dream-like Dream-like " James is angry, and Jane continues on "chasing" James, for obvious reasons and doesn't stop dreaming about him as long as she's not with him. |
