My absolute favorite track on the album. A heart wrenching plea that sings honestly and vulnerably. The lead singer's voice lends itself brilliantly to the angst needed to deliver this song. As the popular adage goes, "loving someone means giving them the power to break your heart and trusting them not to." Although usually reserved for the teenage angst-ridden blogs of today, it applies to everything. |

I believe this song tries to speak on the complexities of love - that is, the complexities we thrust upon it. It warns of the games that can be played and it admits that love can bring fear and confusion. The entire time the speaker/singer is alluding to his own flaws and fear (maybe i'm just scared, maybe i'm just tired, i'm not good enough for you), he is recognizing the fact that the love that exists between he and another is true, if not pure - (our love is true, Just tell by the way I'm looking at you). There is an undertone of hope, though, and this song serves as a plea for the return of simplicity and naked affection. "If I can be saved, show me the way...help me help myself, baby" |

It plays itself out as a happy ode to love, and the sweeping chorus of "love love love love" certainly enhances its ethereal quality - but notice how some lines are reserved for the background vocals. They are sad and vulnerable, and take their place behind the lead vocals, as if they are being expressed under someone's breath. Example: I think you're beautiful when you're sleeping? (I have faith you watch me in my slumber, too.) If I'm all that you're looking for, tell me, why is there a river streaming (down your face? Sometimes makes me wonder all about your) love. Beautiful song. Expresses much to say about the joys and doubts of love in a very creative way. |
