| Tonic – Soldier's Daughter Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I don't get molestation from this song when I hear it, I always get the mental picture of a guy talking to the girl about his friend. Many soldiers daughter's I have known growing up usually moved from place to place. So I always looked at it as she has to move, or called off the relationship because she knew she would one day move, kind of a what's the point type deal. It seems the line there's nothing sacred here, is what I mentioned earlier, she won't let herself get attached. I feel like when he says did your daddy hurt you, it's not a physical hurt, but more of like always telling her no need to meet and make new friends we won't be here long enough. There's not enough time in your day to keep you here, same principle. Did he poison your views, doesn't have to be political or anything like that, or about pain, it could just be about life in general, some see it as fun, some see it as hard, some see it as a journey. Maybe to her dad it was the view of this is your circumstance deal with it, you won't have a normal childhood like some others. I might be wrong but that is more of the impression I get, even more with the over the hills he'd climb, it seems he is talking about his friend once the girl is gone, he would do anything to have her back if he could. I also listen to the chords and all, and just feel like if it was about something dark, they would have chosen a different type of melody. This melody when I hear it, makes me get the feeling of reminiscing more than pain and torture. |

I think this song is dealing with a friend that was scorned by people and she is telling her don't worry about it they don't know what they are talking about. The same thing happened to her and she is saying just walk away because nothing she will do will change their minds, because they will listen to other people instead of the person who knows the truth. Don't listen to what they say, Make up your mind, walk away, Oh don't even give them the time of day, They put you wrong, turn away. So why'd they all just walk away, There was something wrong, But you don't want to say. That is where she is telling her friend just give it up. Oh why did they listen to someone else, I did something wrong, Something... This is what the others said. That's why they all just walked away, There was nothing wrong, Didn't want to say. Oh that's why they listened to somebody else, I did nothing wrong, Nothing I could say. This is when she gave up because she knew they wouldn't listen. |
