I find this song allegorical of earthly life itself. Some argue that man's impermanence on earth ultimately renders his time here irrelevant, like it never existed because it never could endure. And I certainly feel like the legend on the garden wall has a similar meaning. My favorite line by far is "The mirror was a window she sat by alone." This girl had delved deep into herself, I think, because she, struck and horrified by the transience of life, turned to vanity. I mean, at the very least, she could be certain of her physical beauty, despite the ambiguity surrounding spiritual concerns. Its very easy to cling to what you are sure of in the face of impending and inevitable decay. But thats really all speculation... |

| Woah, greyson.vanpelt. There's really no need to call people wrong. I mean isn't this all just speculation anyway? Besides, what people take when they listen to music is about personal experiences... I mean isn't that what makes it lovely, that you don't have to think of the exact same thing as the artist to get something from it, you can have your own ORIGINAL thought, but still appreciate the music as much as the next guy. That's why we're all here right? Because in a sense we're all correct; you, in particular, are accurate in the textbook style. | |

One of my favorite 3eb's because of these lines: "And the siren's song that is your madness Holds a truth I can't erase All alone on your face Every glamorous sunrise Throws the planets out of line A star sign out of whack A fraudulent zodiac" The first three: I love that it can be the her madness is the mythological siren's song luring him in, or police/ambulance sirens, representative of her madness. The last four: He's saying every day is wrong because she's not there. She was meant to be there with him and because she's gone, his world is broken. And now the god of wine waits for him in his room just like it did for her and now he's descending down the same path all because she's not there. |
