I did not understand this song until I began reading Ulysses by James Joyce. The novel is set in 1904 and follows an absurdly deep-thinking depressive young man in Dublin, which has "moors" "bridges". The book is largely about the thought process and also follows a middle-aged man, which could be the "aging" here. Steven, the boy, has very little "light or direction" other than what he is blindly set on, which is all stuff way-way-way deep inside his head. There is mention of a dead body in the bay of Dublin (a suicide), which I thought could be "Something passing by our shore The only one you can tell it to Is the only one that will know" as if the dead person who has killed himself out of misery is the only person that will understand how Stephen is feeling. Seems to make sense and everyone is always talking about the year 1904 when discussing Ulysses. |

| personally, i think it's about sex. i don't think jason mraz is trying to sing about it in a slob way, but saying that since he is climaxing too fast, it's like its something him and his significant other think about. and i think this song is trying to say that instead of worrying about how it's gonna be over so, they should just enjoy the time that they're going rather than dwelling on the future. if you relate it to life rather than sex, it's saying like to live in the present on not dwell on what's to come, and i think jason mraz stresses this point soooo much, so it would make sense why he would put it in a song of his. | |

ok, first of all the new version is available on iTunes, and will be on his new album We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things out May 20 i think. my opinion of the two is that the original version, found out and about on downloading sites, is more of a love song melody, while the iTunes version is like a friends/life song. Meaning. First Verse- I think it is about how he met this girl and she was amazing,made him buckle at the knees kinda thing,"so hot that I melted", the "i reckon it's again my turn to win some or learn some" is like it's his time to win the girl and have a good relationship, or at least learn some valuable wisdom from the experience. The Chorus 1-open up your mind just like open up your mind i guess, open up your life so you can just go with the flow of things 2-I won't hesitate basically like a mini version of the john mayer song "say", just like saying what you need to say, in love context, saying what you fell or making a move or something in life context, just not hesitating to go and do something, being spontaneous, going with the flow "our time is short, this is our fate, no need to complicate" to not over analyze or speculate anything and just live it out in the present. Mirror verse my interpretation is that he has been spending way too long making sure everything looks perfect in the mirror and in other people's eyes, bending all these ways just to try to get the image right, his efforts fogged up the real image, and then he drew a new image and laughed, go with the flow of things "our name is our virtue" virtue literally means-conformity to a standard of right,but it also means a beneficial quality, so my thought is that he's saying either it is yet another common thing,common names, that we all just conform to, or he's saying it is a thing that's givin to us, and we learn to accept it no matter how weird or unique or common it is, like he's saying we should learn to accept ourselves as we truly are also maybe he is talking about how since he's bending all over checking himself and his breath fogged up his true self, from doing that, he lost himself in trying to make himself "normal" overall i think that he's just saying don't hesitate in life, no matter what it is, be true to yourself, enjoy life, and just live in the present. speaking of jason mraz, if you liked his t-shirts in his I'm Yours video, you can find them on www.blendapparel.com ,amazing company,eco-friendly,chec'em out. |
