| Erykah Badu – On & On Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I love this part "If we were made in His image then call us by our names. Most intellects do not believe in God but they fear us just the same." I think that means, if we're God's image than we deserve the same respect. And she's saying that even though most intellectual people are atheists, they still tend to treat others with more "God-fearing" respect than most religious people. |

| Sade – Like A Tattoo Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Such a beautiful, amazing song. The lyrics, OMG, just breathtaking. I know this is based on a conversation Sade had with a Vietnam vet, but you can apply it to all the Iraq war vets too and even those still fighting,. So heartbreaking. | |
| Nine Inch Nails – Closer Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I know there are tons of interpretations. But the way I see it, the song is about him hating himself and being in total despair and he just wants to screw his brains out to escape, just go all out with some animal-like, hot, sweaty sex. And when he orgasms, he feels utter ecstasy or "closer to God". | |

BTW, I think the lyric is, "I feel the WEIGHT of something beyond them." |

Well, Sam Sparro confirmed it's about questioning the existence of a God, so I don't know why some of you mofos insist on saying it about a break up or whatever. It's not hard to figure out, he's basically saying, if the theory of evolution is true and we're all here because of a big bang and not because of a creator, then there's no point to life, there's no meaning, we're all just bundles of meat and bone stomping around a big rock with no souls, spirits, feelings, love, etc. And it's a scary thought. But he's also saying he feels there really is a higher power somewhere and he wants a connection to that power, if possible. It's something I'm sure we've all felt, one way or another. I know I certainly have, I still do sometimes. I think it's a brilliant song and concept, you don't hear these kinds of things in popular songs very often. It's not a religious song, like some of you keep insisting, it's not a Gospel song, it's a song about questioning and the meaning of life. |

I loooove this song. Seems like he's poking fun at himself, (or his reputation, at least) just a little bit, especially the first line of each verse lol. People do say all his girlfriends look the same, and he did seem to get....um....bored very quickly with his women lol. But overall, I think the song is about him wanting a steady, real relationship with a woman that's based on more than looks and sex or whatever. |

| Amy Winehouse – You Know I'm No Good Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
As far as the "Ex-boy upstairs" line, I always thought she said "He's in THE place" meaning he's inside her hooha. I've heard it referred to as "The place" plenty of times by older southern black folks. It's not used often nowadays, but I thought maybe she threw it in there since she's so clever with her words. Anyway, the whole line is pretty self-explanatory. She's cheating, having sex with her ex and even though he's into it, she can't get into it, so she thinks of her current guy in order to cum. |

| Amy Winehouse – Back To Black Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think it just means her guy is going back to his other girl and leaving her in the "black", black meaning depression and sadness, bitterness perhaps drinking and drug use like you all said. Just leaving her in the darkness. | |
