30 Seconds to Mars – From Yesterday Lyrics 18 years ago
He’s a stranger to some
And a vision to none
He can never get enough,
Get enough of the world
(let me add, so you know, those are the correct lyrics, as opposed to "get enough of the ONE", it's WORLD. Here begins my exegesis of the song;
the first few lines are obviously rather vague and are only there to portray a certain element of loneliness and isolation that is a part of the individuals persona, who is most likely the singer himself. as I said before, seeing as how this song is about reincarnation, "never get enough of the world" probably means that the individual is self-indulgent and of sinful nature; "worldliness" as a concept of eastern religions tends to have a negative connotation to it; when a person is worldly it means that they are materialistic and focus only on self-satisfaction; Because of their worldliness and lack of spiritual character they are doomed to repeat physical existence over and over again until they become "enlightened.
For a fortune he'd quit
But it’s hard to admit
How it ends and begins
On his face is a map of the world
Not sure what the "fortune" may be but who can know? And his inability to admit how "it ends and begins" is probably a reference to the individuals confusion about the nature of human existence. And as I said before the "face is a map of the world" part is simply a symbolic way to describe the individuals many "incarnations" on the earth, his many births and deaths which over the course of a long time has placed in all over the world.
From yesterday, it’s coming!
From yesterday, the fear!
From yesterday, it calls him
But he doesn't want to read the message here
All related to reincarnation. From yesterday simply means what it says. It is about past lives, the things that he has done, mostly bad as it seems in the following lyrics since his karma only brings him fear. From yesterday, from the deeds of his past lives the events of this life follow, what he had done in his past lives has come back to haunt him now; but "he doesn't want to read the message, meaning that he does not want to admit the truth about some of the awful things that he is beginning to remember about his past incarnations and the consequences that follow now in this life.
On a mountain he sits, not of gold but of shit
Through the blood he can not see the life that he took
From a council of one
He'll decide when he's done with the innocent
On his face is a map of the world
... on a mountain he sits, an obvious reference to the human ego, he is elevated, he thinks he sits on a mountain of gold but really it is shit, and it has become shit because of his human selfishness.
not sure about the next line.
From a council of one.... meaning he only consult himself, takes no advice or judgments from others, he is a "council of one" and he'll decide "when he's done", another symbol of selfishness, the causer of his bad karma and the "fear" that is "coming".
The rest of the song is repeatative, share your thoughts, you may think I am crazy as hell, but I'm quite sure that my exegesis is rather correct; the band believes in reincarnation, so it's not suprising that some of their songs may deal with the topic.

30 Seconds to Mars – From Yesterday Lyrics 18 years ago
Okay, wow, this is silly. First off, the song has nothing to do with Jesus, war, soldiers, or leaders. The song, for those who have any bit of clarity, is about REINCARNATION. If you look in the credits of the 30 seconds to mars album, you will notice that they thank Buddha, Jesus, and the pythagoras amongst other philosophical and religious teachers. The members of 30 seconds, at least some of them, suscribe to the ideology and doctrine of reincarnation; the believe in it and the song FROM YESTERDAY is clearly and obviously about reincarnation. From yesterday, they are talking about the affects and karma of past lives affecting this life now. The lyrics are rather cryptic but nonetheless the meaning is rather clear to anyone who has ever studied the doctrine of reincarnation. On his face is a map of the world, meaning that the individual has been through many incarnations in his time, perhaps all over the world living many lives, he has not learned his spiritual lessons and thus he is reincarnated again and again; obviously he cant "get enough of the world" a reference to the mans sins and earthly vices. Trust me, the song is about reincarnation; the band has some rather peculiar beliefs, it's all in the "thank you" section of the album booklet; many of their other songs are dedicated to similar "mystical" topics.
