Pulp – Disco 2000 Lyrics 13 years ago
'You could even bring your baby' might also be the narrator telling her that he's gotten over her finally and she could even come and meet him with her husband. I've thought that both explanations could make sense. Regardless, I agree that it's a sad song, even though it's so upbeat.

Mclusky – Alan Is A Cowboy Killer Lyrics 14 years ago
I believe I read that this song is about a time when the lead singer was making a movie when he was younger. They were filming at night in a parking lot of a supermarket and the cops showed up and drew their guns, either not realizing or not caring that it was just kids shooting a movie.

Eels – I Like Birds Lyrics 16 years ago
Yeah this is about his mother who died. She was an avid bird watcher and had lots of feeders, as well as books. He took the feeders and put them in his own yard after she died. This song is for his mother and her passion for birds.

Thanks for that. My source was a newspaper review. I knew it didn't sound right but couldn't come up with anything better.

The Strokes – Under Control Lyrics 18 years ago
No one has mentioned this, but I know it's in everyone's subconscious. The chords are simple, but perfect. The chords make the song.

Underworld – Born Slippy Lyrics 18 years ago
In the Guardian newspaper February 24, 2006, Karl Hyde said: "We used to go out drinking in Soho and I ended up in the Ship on Wardour Street. All the lyrics were written on that night. A drunk sees the world in fragments and I wanted to recreate that. I was inspired by Lou Reed's New York album and Sam Shepard's Motel Chronicles. I was into flash photography as well, so I was walking around Soho with a notebook and camera, just observing things. In those days I'd open the book whenever a musical idea inspired me. Rick [Smith] came up with a rhythm and I started singing over it. The vocals were done in one take. When I lost my place, I'd repeat the same line; that's why it goes, 'lager, lager, lager, lager.' The first time we played it live, people raised their lager cans and I was horrified because I was still deep into alcoholism. It was never meant to be a drinking anthem; it was a cry for help. Now I don't mind. Why Born Slippy? It was a greyhound we won money on."

David Bowie – Space Oddity Lyrics 18 years ago
Everyone who suggested it is about Apollo 13 was joking.
All three of the most predominant meanings listed here (2001 reference, drugs, and a break-up) have been shown to be correct via direct Bowie comments. Let's not argue and accept that all facets of the song meaning come together to form an amazing tale that we can all appreciate.

Misfits – Where Eagles Dare Lyrics 18 years ago
Wikipedia (not the most reliable source) states that the song does not in fact take its name from the movie. Thoughts? Any idea where wiki got its info? I know that the phrase is originally an excerpt from a Shakespeare line, and that's what the movie took its name from.

I actually like Ben's cover more than the original. It's great.
