Band of Horses – St. Augustine Lyrics 18 years ago
Reading over some of the comments has made me think about what you all had to say. Pretty unique. I look at this first poetically, then musically. But this is my poetic view...

So this song is pretty crazy. I don't know where to begin. I've noticed that the first and last line had saint Augustine so I'm assuming at is about saint Augustine. What I know about him isn't much. But in his church he was known for doing some seriously bad stuff in his life, and some good. therefore the feeling of self worth, is pretty darn bad. Fire in the ground comes in lieu of sinning in line with hell.

The chorus is the continuation of that. Of the feeling of being down. Tired, cursed, worst. Sucky.

This next verse is the unique part of the song. The hint of someone else was always evident, but interaction with that person comes out. The girl moves on n life, but the guy still wants reassurance that he can find her by following her hair, hopefully. He will only remember the true meaning of hat she is to him, and not by mere favors that she promised.

The next line, about thunderstorms, is in transition to the last lines. Spontaneously out of nowhere , similar to car wrecks and thunderstorms spontaneity, lets die together. a true form of love.

The Format – If Work Permits Lyrics 18 years ago
"If Work Permits". So it sounds like that someone is preoccupied with so much stuff in life, that heck, there is no time for other things. But the excuse would be... If work permits. If school permits. If things that we are already preoccupied, have to do, whatever it may be permits.

It starts with a girl in the first verse, or someone... but it is a girl. Things that have happened, then with "one day you'll kiss your rabbits"... it talkes about the girl finding out about this boy's current situation in life. And then she will realize that what ever was, has changed since thenn.

Then it goes to the guy's point of view. First part creates the setting, sounds like a bar. How do i know? Well, guys are always asking women to do something with them, cause that is where to pick up girls. I don't really know how i know, but it seems like it fits. Then the other half of this verse goes into analogy of highways and oceans. He's going out, but is getting an urge to come back for some reason, reasons being memories and past experiences from the first verse.

The chourus is pretty crazy. But it is just a time where the guy realizes what is going on. He understands that what is happening, is happening, and that isn't going to change. The only thing that he can do is tell people he is doing allright, and go on with life.

The last verse talks about more past experiences with the girl. The problem with the father and mother, and brother defending the mother. And since they gave the example of love, by having kids and being together, she is scared. They were the prime example of love, but since then, love was smoething that wasn't on her mind. But then, the guy sounds like he was there to reassure her that that wasn't the case.

But there is this distance between both girl and guy. They had memories together, and for some reason (work, school, whatever), there is a split. And the very end... If she is feeling lonely, like he is, let her sink like him. There is some love, but as painful as it is for him, he want her to know it too. Sound mean, but kinda funny.

Sounds like.. my pain is your pain.

Anberlin – The Haunting Lyrics 18 years ago
Okay, so my friend and I have been analyzing songs... This was one of them. So I'm either going to post both of our comments, or just mine. So here it goes.

She says: i think it's just another love ballad. he's been left by his lover. left in the house alone where he and his love used to spend time together. now he is haunted by her memory. their is a theme of mysteriousness and eerieness. so her memory is ominous and has become a presence, felt with each flicker and creak. it all reminds him of her. he likes it though. and he knows the shadows and flickers and creaks can't really be her but he wishes it really were, cuz that would be better than the nothing.

I agreed, but I also added: I thought it was pretty sweet, kinda creepy. The music does give it a new meaning though. It may be a requiem, but it is a song that gives off the feeling, this is his suffering, but he's moving on, slowly. The part that i am confused about is... did the clock die at a 3:15? It seems as if, time just stopped, but then again, the wind is still blowing. Is there some kind of paradigm when it comes to time, and space?
