I kind of get a different feeling from this song. It seems that he had a good relationship with someone, but they left him in a painful way. (whether it be them breaking up or her dying or moving away). But i think it's because of the season because that's when said separation occurred. It seems to me though, that he doesn't think about it because he's better off without her. "This times for real, we're even" seems to say that they were on and off but now it's over (may he was the one who finally had to let her go). It sounds like he only misses her on occasion, the rest of the time he realizes that the relationship was painful and not worth it. |

ps, the lyrics say "it's COSTING them the cut" not coating. i think this is such an amazing song. i think at least the part that starts with 1 2 3 4 is probably about the human population. Like, how we're blind to flaws and we're confusing medicine and art. I think it's just saying how blind the world has become. i don't know, it's only my opinion :) |

I kind of disagree with a lot of these. I think it's not necessarily conclusive to JUST war. I think it could be anything. It could be global warming, starvation, HIV, etc. I think he just kind of hints at the war, but it's meant to encompass every issue. I think that he means that he cares, but doesn't WANT to do anything. He COULD make a difference and prove that we are all equal ("a cat is just a cat"), but he doesn't WANT to. "the feline war has raged for years so i ASSUME it’d be too hard for me to drive my foot between them" This is just telling how since it's been going on forever, he doesn't think he could do anything. But think about it, he COULD. that's why he made the metaphor so simple. Because it's so easy to stop cats from fighting and you only get minor injuries, it's easy to try and make a difference, but we assume that since it's been going on forever, we shouldn't do anything. we assume that people have already tried things, even if they haven't. Just think about that. we CAN make a difference, we just assume that we shouldn't because we might get minor discomfort ["i would never risk the scratch"] This is what i think! :-) |

I dont know why no one has commented this one yet. i love this, i've never heard any of her others, but if they're like this one... Obviously it's about her bitter thoughts towards an ex. but is it purely sexual in the "Tell me was she better / Was she everything and more" or was it a real relationship? either way. the way she says it sounds a lot like sexual only like the whole begging for more, always more line. but it's a simple and gorgeous song just about a guy who left her to be with another girl and she's thinking bitterly "was she better?" yeah great song |

I saw them preform live and they're so amazing. since this site is about meanings i'll give you mine. I agree with most other people. i think that it's just someone falls in love with someone else and they're pulled into a supermassive black hole. Also, i think the lyrics should be "Ooh baby can you hear me moan" not mourn. |
