Pretty sure "punching clocks" refers to clocking in and out at work. Sticking to a regimented schedule set by someone else, in other words. Not literally punching any clocks. |

Makes sense. Cobain seems a likely candidate, if in fact it's about one particular person. |

Sorry, just heard one more as I listened to him to a freestyle of this on YouTube. Pretty sure he says "Bey in the Empire State, and navigating the way." Bey, of course, being himself (Yasiin Bey). |

Thanks for posting something much closer to the actual lyrics. I do think the comment above might apply to one spot, though--"they on it" as opposed to "they yawning". Makes more sense preceding "They need to get off it."
Also think it might be "Engine rock and roll out the station" rather than "And you...". Reference to a fire engine rolling out, with the play on words vis-a-vis rock and roll from a radio station.
Still, great job. |

Is there any way to vote for these as the worst attempt to decipher lyrics, like, ever? You didn't even manage to hear him say the title of the song, clear as day, TWICE. Just . . . wow. |

I don't think it has anything whatsoever to do with war. The "numbers don't lie" bit is a tie to the idea that "two wrongs do not make a right." It's not about statistics of any kind, it's just a play on words.
As far as things being black, I always think that she is the one saying it's bound to be black. He's saying that things are tough ("it's black"), and she's saying that that's just how things are gonna be. |

You think? It's certainly more banal that way, but I don't see how it's any more uplifting. I draw more inspiration from someone who can see beauty in pain than from someone who can only see it where it dominates the surface. |

Pretty sure it's "And I was gonna keep all our secret signs and our lullabies / I was made to believe that our love would grow old" |

Now that I know what it's about, I have to say that the line "when speckled fronds raise round your bones" is one of the creepiest I've ever heard. She's got a hell of a way with words.
I was living in Washington when they caught the Green River killer. She's right about the plenitude of serial killers out there, by the way. Seems like once a week you hear about another serial killing on the news. Freaky place to live; I can't imagine growing up there, especially as a pretty girl. |
