| The Smiths – How Soon Is Now? Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Isn't it pretty obvious? Pretty much sums up the whole ethos arounf the smiths and morrissey. It certainly sums up near enough most fans too. | |
| Morrissey – Alsatian Cousin Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Excellent interpretation, though I relate to it more in just the unrequited love sense. Its such a vicious song and i've felt its lyrics and atmosphere vut pretty deep. "were you and he lovers?" ohhhh, said with such sorrowfull anger! |

| Brand New – You Stole Lyrics | 16 years ago |

My initial reaction to the song and the lyrics was one about a souless relationship with childrne. Both parties are just going through the motions, for example they still sleep in the same bed but don't feel any attachment "we all go to sleep in the same place and in the morning, hope that we're all the same just sit around like broke down cars in the lot waiting for repairs" The day to day life is lacking any fizz or passion, they both are unhappy with everything, and it implies that the rest of the family notice the breakdown in their parents relationship and they too reflect the hopelessness of the situation, the homelife is painfully dull but the two adults are too spineless to end the relationship. "Well, I wish that I was as good as you caring and trusting. And I wish that my condition was new but I'm old and rusting. So we just hurry up only to wait, add to the list of all the places we hate. And I pretend like I got something to say, but I've got nothing." This just outline some of the themes present in their relationship. "now I know that you stole from the cradles they were rocked in you took the first words that they spoke yeah, you stole so if I'm a liar and you're a thief at least we both know where the other one sleeps let's end this tonight because you stole from the cradles they were rocked in you took the first words that they spoke yeah, you stole" This section either refers to a future where they have split up and she has the kids and hence influences them against their father. Or they havent got divorced just yet but she is stealing them slowly away from him, further isolating him. Also the Liar and Thief might also refer to things that have happend in their relationship, maybe an instance of infidelity. Anyone else see this way? Great song though and great album |

| Ocean Colour Scene – Robin Hood Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Just good time when i was younger, i think that youth is indeed wasted on the young. Great song, fits nostalgia perfectly. | |
| Billy Bragg – North Sea Bubble Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Any song that mentions Thomas Paine is bound to be good. This is a great song, with interesting meaning. Billy is a big fan of Tom Paine (as am I), the first two verses are in reference to democratic revolution that followed the fall of the USSR, around this time a man called Francis Fukuyama wrote a book called the End of History, arguing that Liberal Democracy is the natural end point in human political history. At this time many US republicans began fantising about democracy spreading, I think Billy is giving a word of caution, while he believes in Democracy, each country is at a difference stage of political devlopment and it cannot be rushed through. The third is a criticsm leveled at the USSR and its totalitarian system. The north sea bubble and rest of the song is critical of consumerism and capitalism, stating 'we are living in a north sea bubble, trying to spend our way out of trouble', odd this was written in the early 1990s, would be quite relevant today. | |

| The Dears – Lost In The Plot Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| one of my only triumphs of my youth, i was 15 in jan/feb 2005 and the dears toured britian, i managed to get in the Zodiac Oxford to hear them play, my first proper gig, what a beautiful performance. This song was done well too. | |
| Aphex Twin – Avril 14th Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Quite frankly a piece that makes me break down in tears or appreciate a melancholic moment. | |
| The Smiths – Asleep Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song has encapsulated the message i would like to leave when the time in my life comes to end it. I love you Marr and Morrissey, this is the pinnacle of suicidal farwell's, not that i think suicde is good, but i accept it as the personal decision of some (one day me). | |
| Radiohead – Lurgee Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| What an amazing song, this is one song that is a central part of me, the relationship angle works and i believe is the true meaning of the song. But this has much more personal meaning to me than that. | |
| The Smiths – Suffer Little Children Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song, in its sentiment, lyrics and melody is probably the saddest song i have ever heard. Sure there are songs that are more personal to me, but this is real life, it literally sent me crying when i heard the lyrics "oh john you'll never be a man and you'll never see your home again". I heard that song when i was 15, and although the victims were younger it was the denial of growing up that sent the sorrow through my mind. This is a fitting tribute to the victims, bless you Mozza | |
| Manic Street Preachers – Forever Delayed Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song has overt political overtones, even though i disagree with the Manic's politics on many levels. This song is about the failed rise of a 'just' society or attitude to existence, one they subscribe to but is forever delayed in human history. | |
| Morrissey – I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Oh dear, how this song hits home hard. | |
| Pulp – Underwear Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Hmm, yeah maybe she did plan it, or want to sleep with this guy, who was in my personal experience a bastard (but attractive in that way?), and it was a misteak that she wasn't ready or he wasn't accomedating for her first time | |
| Morrissey – I'd Love To Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Well, it reperesents most nights i spend alone. Isn't it werid that there are so many Mozza fans of both sexes who feel the same way and never meet, really shit eh? | |
| The Smiths – Back to the Old House Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is literally the saddest song i've ever heard. | |
| Pulp – Underwear Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| While the situation described by the other posts are accurate about the girl. I personaly see this song in a more personal light. The narrator is a bloke who is in love with the girl, but it has been largely unrequited. He believes that she should be with him, and this is just my personal interpretation(meaning it is related to my life), that she is an innocent sweet girl, possibly a virgin and she gets off with a bloke. While he watches and knows whats going to happen to her, it is torture that she is sleeping, or going to sleep with a bloke, when he would love to be with her. This to me, hits home hard, as i dated a girl and this happend to her, when she should of lost her virginity to me not some random bloke on a drunken night out | |
