Pretty Simple.... Drug Use....Not be happy about your life or the direction it's taking. Waiting for that change to happen but until the only escape is drugs. Being "heavy" about something is to have emotional distress. So by saying he's heavy about everything but his love could mean that theres a supportive love interest or that in the way he loves those around him he finds relief. Being with everyone but yet not, is a simple but beautiful lyric. He's being disassociative about his interactions with others. You can surround yourself with people, try to distract yourself but those feelings of anxiety and uncertainty remain. Sort of spacing out when around people. |

I think this song is about a child/teenager or a man who has recently lost his father. The night after the funeral is depicted in the first stanza and "you gotta do your best to decorate this dying day" is about just trying to move along and go forward. Him wanting the rocking chair outta here is the son's feeling that after the death of his father, he realizes that he doesn't want anything to do with him probably because of a negative relationship. Instead of just wanting to keep something as a sentiment. I think the corner store, could be the family's small business that was passed on to him and the memories of how this is where his life with his father has led. Pull the trigger and making it all go away is how he thinks he cold end the pain and pass on to be with him again, at least he doesn't have to deal with all this. The bowl of bitter beans I think is how, he's sitting there eating a make-shift meal and everytime he takes a bite some bad memory keeps putting a bad taste in his mouth. |

| i think the song is about Self-Actualization that you don't fit society's mold exactly. And also how if you had once had it when you were younger you lose it as you get over. "i'm gonna watch the blue birds fly over my shoulder." Is a more positive aspect, where you are doing well and you are in the prime of your life. "Im gonna watch them pass me by; when i'm older." Is more of the actualization that your time has passed and you can't keep up with the changes or the simple fact that you don't have it anymore. | |

| Love this song, definitely know what shannon is feeling. You have a pet, and it's the only thing that may provide unconditional love and comfort. Then it taken away abruptly. And then when you think your over it, something as small as going to buy dog food reminds you that you can't, you don't have the dog and the realization hits you like a ton of bricks. It's an empty feeling right in your chest. And you're just like "Oh, yea, I can't. It's not there anymore." | |

The song is about his first love obviously, and how close and passionate yo can become about it, yet when you try to leave you've become so accustomed to it it's hard to. Personally, I love this song because it perfectly described what had been going on in my life. I was with a girl for a long time, didn't know if being with her was making me the person I wanted to be or remain to be, met someone else who knew I could be with and be the person who I know I really am, and although I was just comfortable with the other one, I could be something more with the other. |
