Jack White – Another Way To Die Lyrics 17 years ago
I really hated this when I first heard it - I thought it was much too rough to be a Bond theme, even for the grittier Daniel Craig films, and generally didn't like the song at all. However, when I saw Quantum of Solace it made much more sense - it fit the opening credits perfectly and set the tone for the film really well, so I take back everything I ever said about it being crap. As for the meaning? I know Jack White wrote the song, but I totally see it being from Bond's perspective - I think it carries on from Casino Royale, where Vesper, the one person James really cared about, betrayed him; hence the lines "Someone that you think that you can trust is just another way to die." Maybe I'm being pretentious, but to me, the music and lyrics mirror Bond's mind-set - the events of Casino Royale have made him more aggressive and cynical but also hurt, so it makes sense for the song to sound rougher and messier, and for the lyrics to be detatched and a little paranoid. /thesis
But yeah, bloody great song.

Queen – Who Wants To Live Forever Lyrics 17 years ago
This is a heartwrenching, beautiful song. One of my favourites from Queen. Freddie's voice is so powerful here and the arrangement is just fantastic. It's wonderfully dramatic and gives me chills every time. My interpretation is that it's about a doomed relationship, and the two people are trying to make the most of it while they can - very much like Romeo and Juliet, as other people have mentioned.

Girls Aloud – The Promise Lyrics 17 years ago
I wasn't too keen on this at first, but the more I listen to it, the more I love it. The lyrics are a bit..eh, but GA aren't renowned for their poignant songs, are they? Fantastic pop song nonetheless.

Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody Lyrics 18 years ago
Come on - it's not going to be about AIDS. This was released 16 years before Freddie even died. Maybe he had HIV at the time but there's no way of telling unless you're tested for it - and since it wasn't a high-profile disease until the 1980s, why would he have been worried about it? Besides, if he did have full-blown AIDS it would have been fairly obvious (to us now, if not then)

Okay, rant over.

This song is just...beautiful. The barely-audible "Any way the wind blows" makes me shiver. Epic, classic song.
