I agree it's about being in a rut. this may be a clue to what the artist meant the rut to actually be, "Still, I wear the red dress Paint my toes and twirl Take it back to old times when I was still a girl 'Cause now I'm a baboon, boys Cootchie-cootchie-coo Sort of wonder why I missed a kiss for you..." and yeah, I'm pretty sure the lyrics aren't I'm a baboon either... |

"Liberate the people that you hate cut yourself again" By hurting yourself you are only helping your "enemies" "You'll make it through With another point of view again" If you change your mind constantly, never holding down any specific views or beliefs, you can make it through life without any conflict. |

I agree that this song is about depression, withdrawing from life, and even yourself... ..And being ok with it. The vibe of the song itself is mellow and surreal. "though you had the world at your feet you could see it was blind had the perfect job called life you didn't like it you resigned" I've always felt that this was written to himself. It's the part in the song where he breaks from his numbness and trys to make a point |

This summer (July 2007) I was at their concert, and Daniel Johns pretty much said, "Here is a song that means absolutely nothing!" seriously. I'm pretty sure he just grouped words together that sounded intense- knowing full well we, the fans, would attempt to find meaning in them. but hey, I'm not complaining. |

| Silverchair – Ana's Song (Open Fire) Lyrics | 18 years ago |

"You make the sound of laughter And sharpened nails seem softer" Because we associate anorexia with diets and vanity, it looks like a less threatening illness, and is the anorexic were to smile, feign happiness and healthiness, it would make "sharpened nails seem softer" |
