@Crooner, I can understand what you're trying to say - that it's from the perspective a bitch that doesn't appreciate everything she's being given, even though it's being given to gain her affection; I admit it would be an interesting interpretation of the song, if the lyrics themselves supported your argument. However, claiming that someone 'deserves to be raped or abused' is pretty fucked up and misogynistic, no matter how you cut it. Furthermore, saying that a person is 'reveling in their own unhappiness and misfortune' after they've been raped and mentally abused doesn't help your argument, either. Claiming that ANYONE would treat a woman in a similar way if she had used a guy like that is pretty extreme, and ranting about 'whores being in love with what you keep in your pocket' is just icing on your shit-cake interpretation. As for why everyone thinks you're wrong (and they're right), if the woman was being a whore and just taking his money, he could easily just dump her and be done with the whole relationship. The fact that he rapes her and abuses her, and plays mental games with her to keep her close despite the fact that there obviously isn't any love between them, is what makes him the bad guy. The "Go on and.." lines aren't an 'invitation'. That's an admission of submission; she can't do anything to stop the situation. I wouldn't exactly call infecting someone's mind and scaring them a 'permission to enjoy her assets', either. Nice try, though. |

I saw them last year during their Ghost Opera tour, and Khan stopped the band after this song so he could talk for a few minutes on the meaning of the song, and yes, it is about the environment. Of course, I didn't get to hear everything he said, because some drunk fan next to me was too busy screaming "SHUT UP! CAMEL-C*NT, WE NEED KARMA!!" So much for respecting your favorite bands? |

| I get what the majority of the song is about - you'd have to be completely retarded not to - but what's the deal with the last stanza, the whole "double homicide and suicide" area? | |

First off, I agree, this is one of the best songs Maiden ever wrote. And the meaning of the song has been discussed more than enough. But here's a warning, for those who were wondering: I downloaded the Cradle of Filth version after I read a few posts. CoF effectively butchered one of the greatest songs in existence, and anyone who thinks that version is better has absolutely no taste in music, whatsoever. Definitely not even worth listening to. Up the Irons. |
