this song seems soooo clearly to me her using a delicate poetic lyrical mastery talkin' abouts marijuana dependency, or some sort of addiction, craving, every aspect / line makes sense to a stoner. (she is personifying marijuana.. i'm guessing esp at And you'll yield to me Like a scent in the breeze And you'll wonder What it is about me It's my big secret Keeping you coming Slow like honey slow / stoney, heavy with mood scent in the breeze |

| Bright Eyes – Spring Cleaning Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
this is an awesome song. i saw bright eyes do it live in november! although it's jake singing, it's possible that this is still written or co-written by conor. it's possible that it has to do with 'amy in the white coat' but i'm not sure. amy in the white coat is about her father constantly raping her (but amy isn't able to say anything about it because she depends on her father for shelter, food, etc.) amy possibly eventually got pregnant, and the person (maybe not conor, because a lot of conor's songs are other people's situations) hates the horrible father. also, stop rashing on takeiteasy. spring cleaning is done completely by neva dinova i think, but is on the bright eyes split. it is a little bit annoying that bright eyes gets most of the credit for it and that's it's known as a bright eyes song. conor doesn't sing any part of it. it sounds harsh, i mean, i absolutely love bright eyes as well as neva dinova. but that doesn't mean i'm going to be biased. |

| Bright Eyes – Laura Laurent Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
personally, i think that it's about someone (not someone nessacarily named laura) that had died from suicide. he seems to be speaking as "laura" doesn't have any control over things anymore, as if she doesn't move/bother. maybe that he was the one that triggered "laura" to some degree in her suicide [she asked me to care for you, but i went and betrayed her] now he feels awful that he caused (or feels like he did) to do it (make the "movements".) and most of this is show's conor's nostalgia. he feels guilt because he can't talk to her anymore (call tonight), because she's gone (if he still had her number). and also, this part: "But do you know we're in high demand, Laura, us people who suffer Because we don't take to arguing And we're quick to surrender" perhaps about those who tend to hurt themselves instead of hurt others are taken advantage of and maybe eventually, take advantage of themselves (suicide). i think that the use of "laura (laurent)" in his song(s) is just a empty name in place of someone else (male or female, love-related or not). it's common in a lot of writing (by authors, poets, songwriters, etc). and in the other song, where he mentions "laura's asleep in my bed", i'm not sure if he literally means alseep in his bed. maybe i'm overthinking. or maybe conor isn't too obvious and uses a lot of allegory and symbolism |
