I think its "Ritalin addled children" not "Riddled and addled". Just saying. Typically to be addled, you must be addled BY something. |

Everyone has said that the line is "They've got the army of ears, they can't hear you now". Honestly, that makes no sense. I'm pretty sure its "they CAN hear you now". Not a huge change, just hearing this line freaked me out a little bit when I was on a bad trip, and I think I feel like I understood the meaning. Not sure, but I'll give it a shot. They've got the army of ears, they can hear you now (When you start off in a band and you're about to release your debut record on a large record label, it's extremely intimidating. Other bands, older guys who really know how to jam out, and just people who almost seem virtuosic seem so surround you at every show. I think he's just trying to describe the intimidation of being 18, writing an album by yourself, and releasing it to tens of thousands of people. You never know who's listening.) I've got the piss in my veins and this furrowed brow (As Max is growing up in the real world and writing this album, he's spending his spare time drinking to cope with the pressures of writing it. Essentially he's living the "life of a rock star". Whatever you want to call it. His brow is furrowed when he's intoxicated--he's angry, lustful, and determined) You've got this one last chance to burn me, turn me down If not, I've got this last twelve bucks to spend on you You can take me anywhere your sick mind wants to Use yourself to fuel me, using you. (He understands that he's a wreck, always intoxicated and suffering from his anxiety, but he approaches the girl that he's lusting after anyway. He says "You've got this one last chance to turn me down" because he knows that she's going to see his flaws, and turn him down immediately, but IF NOT He'll spend his last 12 bucks to take her somewhere, buy her drinks, etc. She succumbs. He gets her a little drunk. He finally says "Use yourself to fuel me using you". He tells her that he NEEDS her.) I know most of this verse is self explanitory, and open to interpretation anyway, but I thought the first line or two deserved a breakdown. It just related to me so well when I heard it. |

You can't put off the fact that the U.S. is in hundreds of trillions of dollars in debt. Capitalism or Free Trade are both too broad to say that this song is strictly about them. Its all just a bunch of muddled shit. If you try to pin the blame on any institution, your argument will have holes. There are greedy people out there and the U.S. is suffering at their cost. Same goes for the U.K. "The 5,000 year leap" in technology was definitely the offspring of our consumer economy, but Rou said it in the song: "I just wish we had a chance to help build it instead of just moving into this home of disrepair and expect it to work, prosper, and then share constantly relying on consuming to feel content but only because we lost such with this home that we've spent trillions of dollars paying for our wants and not our needs." |

THANK YOU. I just posted a comment describing this, and then saw yours. You're literally one of the only people who think about everything in this song before running your mouth. Respect. |

I love the irony in this song. All of the people who continue to down these "scenesters", are being just as pretentious as those described in this song. AND now I'm being pretentious for accusing these supporters of the song, just because they don't understand the lyrics. It's NEVERENDING. I wish it would just stop. But like Bemis said, When I'm dead I'll rest. It'll all be over then. |

If you would actually read the lyrics, you would understand that Bemis isn't just attacking the scene, but at the end, he's pointing out the fact that there's a never-ending chain of irony. Isn't it pretentious to call out pretentious people for being pretentious? People constantly put Max down for being an Elitist asshole, but they don't truly listen to the message first. |

I'm not 100% positive about this, but I think the first and last lines are: Dont believe a word OF WHAT THEY SAY instead of Dont believe a word, a word they say. Not like it makes a difference. It all sounds the same :) |
