The way Mark wrote this song, combining simple lyrics like "words like forever, they scare the shit out of me" with amazing verses like "But I think its for the best that you and I just don't connect", the way he mixed easy, elementary lines with a verse like that says a lot about his songwriting ability. Does anyone else hear the influence of the Cure? |

I think on this song, in the chorus, he's saying: Do you care if I don't know what to say? (Obviously, he's nervous, has no idea what to say to her.) Will you sleep tonight, will you think of me? (Here I think he's saying will you think of me every night, whether I'm with you or not? Will I always be a part of you?) Will I shake this off, pretend it's all okay? (Here he's asking himself if he can deal with the ending of a relationship, and just walk it off and find someone else) That there's someone out there who feels just like me, There is (He's suggesting that there's another girl in the world who is feeling the way he feels, but it's not some other girl, it's her.) Pretty literal interpretation. |

This song reminds me of two people who have drifted apart over the years. In the first verse, he's remembering them, and wondering what life will be like without them. The chorus seems to be about memories following them wherever they go, no matter what they do. Then, the second verse seems to be about trying to accept the fact that they will never see each other again. Then, finally the "Ten years strong" part is them realizing they need to see the othe person, so they're going to do something about it. My friend turned me onto this band, and this song reminds me of her, which is why I interpret the song that way. |
