Its not about max. i think it got released because it fit the situation so well. but i saw in an interview (it was months ago so i can't cite)but ronnie said it was written in an old band and performed and that particular recording was before they made etf. if you compare it to the new songs or even from old etf he does sound young in it. but it does fit perfectly

YES!!! this song reminds me so much of sing the sorrow i started to wonder if they still had it in them. this rly reminds me of the movie of 'the watchmen' for a couple of reasons. 1) the reference to the 'big joke' n the comedian was constantly saying everything was a joke 2)'I feel I have been abandoned I alone seem to see disgrace As I watch these mad dogmatics govern our entire race.' seems to refer to rorshach because he was always alone n the dogmatics govern our entire race looks like it talks bout when he was talking bout the case with the lil girl that the murder fed to the dogs and rorschach said 'destiny didnt kill that little girl. god didnt condem her to die. we did' as if he blamed the whole race of humanity. 3)'Don't tell them you can walk on water Or they may drink your blood' reminds me of dr manhatan who everyone says is a god but he denies it.

Ronnie had charisma out the ass and thats the thing. Craig is good but it lacks sumthing. Almost like it lacks effort. And with omar the guitar sounds a bit emty compared to their 1st album. This song is Awsome! n there isn't any comments?!?!?
I think the most obivious meaning is that this is about somebody going off to collage or simply just moving out of their parents house (back home the autumn leaves ... and drove a thousnd miles away)
However, if u look deeper it also could represent a relationship where the singer '[did] what [he] could' to make it work and so did the other person. Everything seemed fine on the surface (winter turns to spring, but it still looks the same) but they both still have hard feelings n fight a lot (... there's still the constant rain.) Still, the singer is sorry for what was said n done and by a saying 'Are you there?' he is asking if the person he cares for is still wants to try or if they have already set their mind to leave.
