| John Mayer – I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You) Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This song for me is a story of the past year of my life.. even though I am a girl, I play the role john did in this song. I met my boyfriend at an interesting time.. a time where I no longer had no idea who the hell I was anymore. I just had horrible things happen that affected me enought to change myself. I told him that he should be warned when he met me. He asked me on a date and I said "no you dont want to get into this'. he wouldn't give up but even when I said yes, I still told him that he didn't want to get into this. I didn't trust myself with love and still dont. when john says he will beg is way into the garden and get back out when it rains.. i dont think he is saying that he wants to 'duck out' when bad times hit. that would make him a jerk.. and john is nothing less than wonderful. he says that he would do it just to watch her back all over again.. i think that means that he wants to see her back again when she is happy even if that means he has to go through the sorrow again..shes worth it. i would go back through all my heartache just to see my friend last year be happy again. but i cant.. you cant change the past and that is why i dont trust myself with love. i want my boyfriend to hold onto whatever he can to get him through. even if its not me.. cuz my relationship is for him. |

| John Mayer – Belief Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I do not believe that john is saying we should not have beliefs.. he is too smarft for that. Without belief, we are nothing.. we have no truth..nothing to live for. He asks if we ever see anyone dieing for their beliefs..hinting that we should be but are not. His meaning is actually found, in my opinion, as the opposite of the meaning you may get out of it in the beginning.. but that he just how he may want you to see it. We are all guilty of the song. I find that I can relate alot of john's songs. 'waiting on the world to change' says that all we do is WAIT. we need to do something.. he says in this song that we all have beliefs. its not a question of 'should we have beliefs or not?" .. rather "what should we do with those beliefs?" its easy to paint a sign.. but is it just as easy to die for what is written on that sign? i love john, he makes me think without even trying. he writes about what matters, what we should be doing to change the world. we all complain about the world, but do we do something about what we complain about or wait for someone else to do it? a horrible example but somewhat hopefully comical i see inside my dorm room at my college. i am always the one that has to change the role of toilet paper cuz no one ever wants to. they leave i there and get tissue off one on the table until someone decides to put the role on the holder. my point is.. even though people want things done, they just wait for the next person in line to do it. we become followers instead of leaders. i do not believe john is saying there is no right belief..i think he is saying we use our beliefs in the wrong ways.. sometimes for ourselves instead of others and that causes destruction. he says that we wont ever win the war if belief is what we are fighting for..we cannot fight over religion in ways that just cause more war. i am a full believer in christianity but i dont go about the world and argue about my religion. instead i try to love and care for people everyday as a whole. i think john is saying that we must not segment ourselves for the sake of religion.. we are a whole nation and still all one people no matter our beliefs or our color, gender. as i said, john says, "WE ALL HAVE BELIEFS'. it isn't a question, it is a statement. i believe john is saying we need MORE than just beliefs. it isn't enought just to believe. we must take action on our belief.. it is more than words.. more than paint on a sign. is should be something we will die for. |
