I don't think there's any right or wrong way to interpret song meanings, and your interpretation does make sense. But looking at Anthony's other lyrics, I am more inclined to think it is about (abusive) love, likening love to drug use rather than the other way around.
But like I say, if this is the interpretation that resonates with you, then that's all that matters. |

Still, he does say "Funnily enough I missed the freckles" and her cold skin. Meaning he didn't notice them? The fact that her skin was cold even on a hot night makes me imagine she wasn't as passionate about their relationship as he was? Hence her turning her shoulder towards him? I dunno though, I'm making random guesses with a sleepless brain. But I think the chorus sounds a bit out of place in there. |
