Foster the People – Downtown Lyrics 12 years ago
This song was written about actor Brad Renfro who died of a heroine overdoes. He was Fosters roommate. I remember movies like The Cure, Tom and Huck, Apt Pupil. He was a good young actor. Drugs are bad!

Maturity, confidence, not relying on silly stylists and publicists anymore. I think it's great.

Sam's town was the best album of the decade and definitely the most under-rated. It was genius!

The Killers – Battle Born Lyrics 13 years ago
I agree with paperbackwriter. This song must be about America. Battle is what we are known for (and semmingly what we seek). We've had our high time and our light and it's faded. Let's face it! But the song is optimistic too. e.g. you can't stop now, show us one more spark, you're going to get back on your feet, etc.
Brandon Flowers took a lot of flack for criticizing Green Day for trashing America and egging on German Crowds singing "Don't want to be an American Idiot!" It's a song about a love for a country that has failed in many respect and lost a lot of what made it great but is still worth something and can be great again.

Brandon Flowers – Playing With Fire Lyrics 15 years ago
I think the versus are his explaining to his father his choices he is making. He understands his parents don't necessarily agree with them but he has to defend himself and let them know that even though there is danger there is also good. And that even though the path he's taken is not that his parent would have chosen for him he will keep his faith. He tries to assure his dad that he's not leaving his faith it will be with him and these decisions he is making are something he simply has to do.

The chorus is where he realizes to himself what he's doing. He's walking in the face of danger and sin and he's going to hurt somebody like parents for the decisions he's making. He's playing with fire by being so close to sin and he may even hurt himself. Out on a wire and playing with fire both suggest that he is not blatantly doing what is wrong but is getting close enough to danger by living his life unsheltered.

The Killers – Why Do I Keep Counting? Lyrics 18 years ago
Brandon is an active Mormon who being in the music industry has done a lot of things he has said himself he isn't proud of i.e. he struggled with smoking and drinking etc. which are all against Mormon religion. He has a phobia of flying. I can picture every time he gets on a plane praying in his head that he gets down safely. He has a fear that he will die on his birthday also and once had to fly on his birthday. I think that experience could have made him want to write this song.
He asks Father (Mormons typically call God Father or Heavenly Father) to help him get down safely. But he wonders if he with the things he has done if he deserves the blessing. He feels he is bothering him by always asking for his help. I think he also compares this one situation to his whole life. He has also been so richly blessed he doesn't know why he struggles with some things and doesn't understand everything and is always bothering God by asking him for help.
The mountain waiting for him is another trial he has to face. Something else he must get down. Something else he must ask Father for help. Why can't he live for the present? he wonders. Why do I keep counting the days until the next thing. It's beautiful. This may be my favorite Killers Song but I'm not sure!
I love this song!!! Brandon Flowers is incredibly talented!

The Killers – Romeo and Juliet (Dire Straits cover) Lyrics 18 years ago
Brandon Flowers voice is perfect for this song. I don't usually like covers but I love the killers! They share a great love and then she becomes too good for him and downplays him. Anyway does anybody understand the "she's singing hey la my boyfriend's back"? I know it's a song but why is it included?
