Are you sure it's not "I'm king of a heart country"? That would totally make sense because it would be a reference to Black Swan ("my heart is a kingdom where the king is a heart..."). I always thought it was "I'm king of a heart country." |

These are some excellent points here, though nobody seems to have considered the importance of the orchestral bit from the beginning. It's an excerpt from "Lenin's favorite songs" or something like that, which leads me to believe it may be a criticism of Communism. "Daddy's gonna give you as much as you can take." Whaddya think? |

Great song about religious disillusionment and what being a Christian truly means. The "too many people..." part is fairly straightforward, it's the part about standing on the grave of the dead soldier that seems a bit more abstract...I have no idea what that part means actually... |

There is so much being said in this song...love the surreal, stream-of-consciousness feel of the lyrics, and the backing vocals...
Seems to be about the drug lifestyle and fame in general, the artificiality...to quote the song directly: "the sweat, the victory, & the sorrow."
Great song. One of my favorites from R.E.M. |

It's about feeling invaded and discomforted by sex, from a female perspective. |

Great song. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think it's leaning more towards the "heaven is monotonous and repetitive" interpretation. I understand the argument that the song is about how a place where nothign happens would be a relief in comparison to the toils of earthly existence, BUT I don't think that's the point the song is making. It puts this eternity in human perspective: the kiss that happens over and over again. It's bliss, but it's a kind of eery, mindless bliss. Love the irony here. |

I've always found this song amusing, to the point that I based my first Uncyclopedia article on it. As for the "meaning" of the song, I think it's just Pink Floyd goofing around and writing a song about a dog. |

Yeah, the lyrics on this one are quite ambiguous. It seems to start out as a story of this guy wandering around in an apocolyptic world, but then this line comes along:
"Yeah, I went out for the papers
Told her I'd be back by noon..."
This puts a totally different spin on it, and implies that the apocolyptic images aren't really happening, but are perhaps more metaphorical.
I like to think of it as a middle-class man simply walking out of his house, telling his wife that he's out to get the paper, and just wandering away from his old life, out into the world, to look for something better. But then there's all those religious images...mmm...this is a tricky one. That's my spin, anyway... |

Love this song, especially the ironic "We are in love--STAY AWAY" twist at the end. It's ironic, in a sad sort of way. "It's the pain that keeps us alive, but that beauty is all that we need to survive." Awesome closing line about pain making us human, I guess. Not sure what the "that damn beauty" part is driving at. |
