Ok so this is my perspective on all this. I think that this song isn’t about a break up, but more about a crush on a girl. I think that the girl knows that he is in love with her and she is just playing him around a small bit: “when all I needed was the truth” But he is willing to but up with that. But as time goes on he sees that she has no interest in him “its coming down to nothing more than apathy” He would rather run away from the truth of knowing this, than to see if she will stick around for him “I’d rather run the other way than stay and see” The chorus means (I think), that everyone knows that he fell for this girl and she is way out of his league, but he is too far in emotionally himself to back out. As he says “I wish you were a stranger I could just disengage” I think that means he wishes he never fell in love with her, and that he could get her off his mind. And he hates the fact that he likes her a lot. Because he knows she doesn’t like him “Soften a bit until we all just get along” Means that if they were just friends he would be happy. But he knows that if they were just friends that he would they would never be friends forever. “Find another friend and you discard” I think at this point he tells her he likes her, and she says sorry I don’t like you and he argues with her for that, with no positive effect “As you loose the argument in a cable car” and that the line “Hanging above (because they are in a cable car) as the canyon comes between” I think that this is symbolic for that after this argument, it causes a huge rift between the two of them in there friendship or relationship, whatever you want to call it. “And suddenly I become part of your past”: He is been forgotten about, they haven’t talked in a long time. “I’m loosing you and its effortless”: He means that he still likes her but he is loosing her because he screwed it up the first time. And then I can’t work out the last bit. “Without a sound we loose sight of the ground” does he confront her at this point? “Never thought that you wanted to bring it down” does he mean that she always wanted to end the friendship/ relationship? “I won’t let it go down til we touch it ourselves” he won’t end it until he decides to end it? I’m not to sure on the last parts. Well that’s my two cents; at this point in time I have the same problem so that’s how I worked it out. Change what you need. I don’t mind. |

I only realise what this song is about when I need it most. I'm in a situation where I'm madly in Love with a girl who doesn't feel the same for me in which I only found out the harsh reality of that an hour ago. Then this song played on my computer .. I was all like "Hey... why does this make sense?" But it does ... I could be completely wrong but I don't care. Its the closest song to help me with what I'm feeling right now. And it does it just perfectly. |
