| I think that this song is about remembering the simplicity of a childhood friendship that was destroyed by something and how the narrator of the song wishes to mend his lost friendship(s) before he dies. | |

yeah. for real. the word slow would totally throw off the meaning and the vibe of the whole text. it HAS to be solemn. and as for the panic and mcr refferences. i am fans of both of those bands, but neither ryan ross nor gerrard way could hold a candle to the lyricism of craig owens. (and this is coming from an english major who totally respects ryro and geeway for most of their lyrics) |

i hate the last line to the song. the "i've given up on the entire human race." according to Hannah Arendt, a text should "reveal meaning without committing the error of defining." and that line, above all things, commits that error. the lines preceding it are extremely romantic and anyone with half a brain and common sense can understand that if one "existed because they dreamed and, well, they dream no more" that they have, indeed given up on the human race. not only does that line "commit the error of defining", it's a cliche. cliche's do not add to the meaning of a text, they only take away. by saying "i existed because i dreamed and, well, i dream no more..." you are leaving the listener with a strong immage and by adding anything, expecially a cliche, after that is doing an extreme injustice to the piece and the romanticism of it. i think what this line chalks up to is an insult to the listener's intelligence. by puting such a line at the end, Mr. Owens is implying that we aren't smart enough to figure it out on our own. and besides, in poetry (and lyrics) it's not about what you say, it's about what you don't say and it's not about denotation, it's all about connotation and the inner music that words make on their own. |

i really like the chorus of this song. i mean, when you think about it, there is no one "final oppinion" that can compare to a tollerance for everything, even if you don't like it. i also really like the spider analogy. that really kicks some ass. |

this song actually reminds me a lot of the night my mom went crazy. (i mean really crazy. she ended up in a mental health facility twice last year. she's bipolar.) I can relate a lot to the chorus. it has that "deer in the headlights" kinda feel to it. it's like "okay, i don't know why the hell you're doing what you're doing right now, but i will do anything to make you stop." to me it doesn't seem so "oh why did you break up with me? woe is me!! *insert dramatic music here*" it seems very hurried and scared and desperate which, at least to me, are feelings that run a lot deeper than "sad". and the whole line with "this place is an enemy...etc." is actually a very good way of describing how you can attatch negative feelings to a place. I still cry anytime i have to drive through the neighborhood my mom and i lived in last year. i mean, the environment in which bad things happen is where a lot of bad memories seem to come from. this song really isn't as "la-ti-da" as people make it seem. it definately has something very genuine behind it. its a lot more universal than you would think. to me, this song is about loving someone so much you'd be willing to do anything (even sacrafice your own happiness) to make things better for their situation. |
