I love this song! It seems pretty straight forward I think. Maybe 2 cold war era spys one from the US and one from the USSR and they're in love and they're seeing each other for the last time in Red Square. One doesn't want to be detected by the KGB and the other doesn't want to get caught by the CIA. |

I've been listening to this song since the album came out but I'd never really listened to the lyrics anyway I'm not from the UK (though I do realize that Mornington Crescent is an underground station) and just yesterday I heard of the game Mornington Crecsent and I right away connected it to this song... then I listened to the lyrics and realized that is not in fact what this song is about. Yeah anyway. |

I'm probably totally wrong but I was thinking the two were caught errmaking out, for lack of a better phrasing, behind the Tilt-a-Whirl by the girl's family or the "Boys in denim vests" maybe her brothers? And the girl lies saying the boy was taking advantage of her and makes her eyes all wet and shiny so the people who caught them believe her. Then the narrator is upset by her lies. |
