| The National – Karen Lyrics

This song is rapidly growing to be one of my favorite by the National.
"I'll end up winning and I won't know why" - I think this idea of the emptiness of public recognition repeats itself throughout the song. |

Agree with CheckMyTime. And I just think the lines:
"Millions of sunsets, but the one I remember
Is the one where you told me you’d love me forever"
couldn't have been sung better so as to transcend the cliche in any way. |

The vocal hook in this song is amazing. And I love the line "it's time now / that I pick up my hustle": it makes the narrator's mundanities seem poignant, almost sacrificial. |

| MGMT – Love Always Remains Lyrics

Maybe not too original, but this song really gets to me. "We'll never feel so safe again" - sums up a loss of innocence rather neatly.
I don't see this song as being about purely romantic love, either - I see this about familial love, friendship, that sort of thing too. |

This song should have more comments. *_* I love how half of Jens's songs seem to be conversations. |

What rings most true to me in this song is when he's talking about what he could do - "I could make you rue the day", "I could make you pay and pay" - but he can't. It's the utter powerlessness associated with heartbreak - it's not that we don't want to or can't hurt the person, it's that we can't will ourselves to, and that's the least powerful you'll ever feel. |

| Jens Lekman – Julie Lyrics

I love the lines, "Oh Julie, you know that I ain't for hire, but you can have me". It just sums up to me how proud and independent we normally are, and then we're just crumbled to our knees by one person, and we don't care what becomes of us.
I tend to read this song as tragic, though - I always feel like this relationship turned out badly, and this is him writing about his abject failure afterward. |

I love the lyrics:
"Let's just have some fun
Let's tear this shit apart
Let's tear the fucking house apart
Let's tear our fucking bodies apart
But let's just have some fun"
But then, I love everything about this song. |

I'm a newbie to Spencer Krug, but I love his songs already. I love the lyrics "How dare you strip me down? / A shitty shell with a knock-off watch /
With a knock-off jacket and a knock-off /
Lord". |

This song reminds me of the book Flowers For Algernon, where Charlie, the main character, is unable to have sex with his romantic interest because he is emotionally immature. Charlie's emotionally stunted self is often referred to as some big, dumb, scared kid.
Just an interesting coincidence that I saw. |

| Patrick Wolf – The Magic Position Lyrics

Adding to what spentcigarette said: I can't find the quote, but Patrick said that "the magic position" is a phrase musicians use to describe an instrument that's completely in tune. So no, it is definitely not sex.
Aand, I adore this song and Patrick Wolf's beautiful deep voice more than you can imagine. I think it's the song I've listened to most over the past few months. |

If you don't love cute '60's pop throwbacks, you'll probably hate this song. :)
Looking strictly at the lyrics, they do sound a little condescending and dumbed-down. But listening to the song, you've got to realize that he's narrating a pretty pessimistic life philosophy to a wonderful sing-a-long pop tune, which is interesting - almost desperate. It's a device Of Montreal uses a lot, which is probably why I like it.
And I love the "ba-ba-ba-ba"s in the middle. |
